What is the lightest direct drive motor? Would it be the Mxus XF40 1000w at 6.4lbs?

I dont' know which one is actually lightest, but there's a few threads about light motors that may have useful info for you

The Grin Tech all axle hub and BionX D-Series have both around 4kg.

Perhaps the Aotema is the lightest DD motor;

Motor looks interesting...why can you not buy it from the site?

The Crystalyte NSM motor is only 2.7kg,

In a 16" rim it's OK but laced into a 26" bike wheel most people would find the performance underwhelming, and the efficiency at higher torques would be piss poor.

The best torque to weight ratio (as opposed to just the 'lightest') of any commercial DD ebike hub motor is almost for sure the BionX D. That has better continuous power than most 7+ kg DD chinese motors, and as others have mentioned here it weighs just 4 kilos.

Thanks Justin. Is there a chart somewhere we could compare the various torque to weight ratio? I think bionX D is a bit out of my budget

BionX SL motor weights 3.4kg.

This includes a 48V 30A controller and the "torque sensor" glued to the axle.

You need to add a freewheel which usually weights more than a cassette...

Official torque rating is 40Nm peak and 9Nm continous.

Bump

I am looking for a very reliable DD motor, light.

In fact two motor, for a hase bike in Delta

Basically I would to find the mxus 3kw but in a lighter way. And more torque if I can.

The Grin Any Axle is light as mentioned but the 32h drilling, integral torque arm and ability to use with 10, 12, 15 and 20mm axles sets it apart and would be the most adaptable to your delta config. I believe Justin had then set up outboard on his sun cruiser?

I run mine @ 1200w and it could do more I’m sure and it’s very quiet too. I highly recommend it.
