In case you hadn't heard, in addition to the WHAM governed racing that takes place on Monday of the Memorial Day weekend, there will be "unrestricted " racing on Saturday and Sunday for the e-assist folks. Yep, we wanted to give the assist folks some more opportunity to test their skills, open up their power assist system, and have more interaction with the regular old human powered peeps.
On Saturday we have drag racing as one of the activities scheduled for the HPC'ers and this year we are inviting the assist crowd to join in. This is a 1/8 mile strip that is actually a down and back course (1/8 mile each way), with the extra bonus of it being a relay race! As one contestant crosses the line, the next crazy heads off down the line. The only caveat is that eTeams can only compete against other eTeams ( it's an insurance thing), no mixing between plain old human bean powered rigs and assisted ones, dang! But, to see the assisters whip it down the track and back will really be eye opening for the pedal pushers and the spectators. Same thing applies in the auto cross racing on Sunday. A pair of mirror courses pits, again, relay teams against each other. Some tightish cornering, and some straights, will insure a good mix of speed, acceleration, and handling skills.
Both of these events were revamped this year to embrace the team concept, as an element of still being competitive yet socially being a hoot at the same time. So we figgered, why not get the assist peeps in here too, and let them run their beasts unleashed, no WHAM ! (The WHAM, in case you weren't aware, is the super new power metering device that governs all the ePower regular events on Monday. More on that if you click on the links provided later). So whatever power system you have or want to run is fine, it's something of a showoff time for the e-assist crowd.
There will also be the Left Coast Velomobile Gathering going on at the same time at PIR. Velonauts from all over the western side of the continent will be here to show off a myrid of commercial and home built velomobiles. And naturally, more than a few of them have great interest in e-assisting their rigs. Some already have, others are sure to follow!
Here's a few links to news and race guidelines for the ePower Challenge event. Peruse around the entire site to get the flavor and scope of the entire weekends activities. Hope to see you here and help us promote the cool world of e-assist power!
