*Real Engagement Eco-Friendly
Check out this big idea:
I've logged thousands of electric-assist miles doing 35mph with no tailpipe and getting pumped with endorphins in the process on this plug-in hybrid rig
using ~21Wh/mi = 1750 mpg eqivalent!:
It has 720 Watt-hours of lithium LiFePO4 batteries and a one-moving-part brushless electric hub motor.
...and like fellow e-biker Warren, in the process of racking up those miles I concluded that a lot of pollution could be replaced in short trips with a streamlined, enclosed 2-seater version of the above...
Like this:
Now take a close look at that top sketch...2 seats and 4 pedals up front
...........and a powerful electric motor. Highly efficient and gas-free - driven by clean, eco-friendly high power plug-in lithium batteries.View attachment commuter_concept2_sm.pngDrawn by Warren Beauchamp http://www.recumbents.com (used with permission).
...it might end up looking something like this (drawn by Jack Ashcraft and used with permission)
What might be called a
Superleggera (super-light Italian sportscar tech),
extremely aerodynamic,
2-person social tandem
pedal/electric hybrid
book it down the roadster !
Registered as a motorcycle.
Driven like a car.
Pedaling optional.
FUN.
PRACTICAL.
ZERO emissions.
A PEDAL-ELECTRIC HYBRID CAR.
n.b. This vehicle would be useful for only 90% of US car trips - 2 people or less going 40 miles or less. Daily savings in fuel costs could subsidize a limo rental for most everything else. Oh, and not driving your internal combustion car to work will save over 2 tons of carbon dioxide yearly from polluting the planet.
You can help make this idea a reaiity.
This project has been accepted for Jan. 2011 voting in Pepsi's "refresheverything" grant program !! Your daily votes there can help secure the grant money to build the prototype. Just go to

BTW, Warren rightly says: if you pedal enough you start thinking differently.
