Hubs for left side drives?

I have been looking for a hub that can easily be used to hold a disc rotor and a large sprocket on the left side. Or a large sprocket and a free-wheel on the right side. I want to use one of these 170mm wide hubs, I don't know which is the rotor side but it looks like it maybe the one marked. True? Looks like the other side is made for a motorized sprocket.

I thought I saw a fixed gear Origin8 that had an extra storng rotor mount, but can't find it now. Just the full cassette one. But do they have large sprockets to fit? Or a large one could be bolted onto the small srocket? The small one would be better for human power, with the motor on the break rotor side. There is no way that I am going to build such an expinsive machine without using cartridge bearings. I had a nice shimano hub that used loose ball bearings, and was over hauling it every summer. But the local bike shop kept giving me new cones that were a bit larger each year untill they were too large and it ruined the hub. Well now I do every thing my self because I can't trust anyone. I now have a Velocity hub with excellent bearings. I always buy extra bearings because they may stop making them.

I want a 170mm symmetrical hub built that well for a simular price for my next project [something like the red bike] I'll use a BMX hub on the front. Or maybe one the new 135mm symetrical fatbike disc hubs with a 2.5” tire and 16” motorcycle rims. For 600-700lbs total combined weight I should try to find a 14mm axle hub, do they make these with more than 12mm? At least that is more than 3/8th inch and possibly a double wall axle?


I found only two that have strong enough mounts on the left side. And 17cm looks like it is made for 4inch wide tires. But I want 2.5 to 3 inch max with extra room for drive chains on both sides. I can't stand having my drive chain rub against the tires. It collects too much road mud crud.

There are moped hubs that have a freewheel on one side, sprocket on the other, and a drum brake in the middle.
 
Actually I'm thinking of going for an IGH, understand good for no-motor standing starts uphill with a big cargo load.

I know Rohloff's 14-speed Speedhub is pricey, and can only withstand 130 Nm torque but it's got a nice wide range so leg power could keep contributing at cruising speeds

I hear Alfine 8 might also be worth looking at.

Could these ideas be adapted to a left hand chain?

Since when? Most bearings used in cycle components are industrially standard parts that will be available long after the parts they go into are out of production.

Some of the weirder bearing sizes, like those used in American Classic hubs, are hard to find. But most are common as dirt, and not specific to bikes.

I think your best opportunity to get what you want is to make a brake rotor that's also a mounting spider for a sprocket that mounts inboard of the disc. Whether you can make enough clearance between the sprocket and rotor for the back side of the disc caliper is a matter for experimentation.

This is exactly the approach I'm considering. A 150mm DH hub has plenty of room, 135mm maybe with careful caliper and rotor selection plus some modification to the caliper mount.

It's possible a "top hat" style of mount could be used but I'm not confident they have the strength to run 5kw without bending.

After the fiasko with the bearing cones I don't trust anything with loose bearings.

.....I just spent over $155 on a rim and tire to rebuild my existing bike's rear wheel. And I think I can do 4 cross spokes this time.

The only tire I could find to fit was a Michelin city pro 2.25" x 17"rim and watching a video about it I think it is only 3ply but stronger than the 19inch tire I had on there untill I got a puncture and ruined the bead taking it off.

So eventualy I want to build an improved cycletruck that will take 2.75" 4 ply tires with a symetric hub.
 
sorry I think it was the cones that they now sell only in kits. I have a full bottle of the bearings from that hub.
