Hello all!
The alternator seems to worck as expected with the bmsbattery 12fet controller:
I reconfigured it from delta to star, and no load dropped from 250w to about 80, 12w of that powers the rotor via an old camera power supply used as dc/dc. 2500 rpm makes it easy to gear down. I will likely use 11 front and 56 rear standart moped sprockets.
The frame also got some work, I reduced the track to about 1m without wheels, and lowered the frame. I like it better with the nose down!
I ordered new tires, pirelli 14"x2.25, I hope I got it rigth this time.
The pivots are done, and look neat IMO. I need to find what material use to make the linkage to the handbars. I also fitted chain and chain guides so It should roll soon!

Ackerman steering geometry and chain lines are driving me crazy! Especially the big chain going from crank to the rear. But a friend borrowed me an old 250w scooter, with a working motor... so I think I will ditch the whole chain, and go serial hybrid!
all I would need then would be a big sprocket to rev that small motor to make 43v+ out, and a big diode to prevent the motor to spin. I'll probably loose 30% energy too... but I will gain some space in the frame, and it will be simpler IMO. No need for gears, chain guides, tensioner, ext.
But on the other side, a sensored motor become 100% needed. So I'm in the search for a motor with halls that will run at about 4000rpm a 40v, or a big hub motor like the ones John in CR is using. I considered using the big 130kv turnigy, but I have doubts on long term reliability... I think the commons hub motors may be a bit light to be fitted with motorcycles rims and spokes. I have a 200$ budget on the new motor, but cheaper would be cool too! If I had some time I would convert an alternator to PM, but right now I would like to put my trike on the road quickly!

Son anybody with an awesome motor idea?

Crystalite hub motor maybe? they seem to be pretty light weight, and you only need a small lipo to power them?

Yeah, a 5xxx series would do it well, but they cost at least 400$, so it's not really an option for now... Ebike.ca is selling some mis-laced 9continents at 145bucks, that could be interesting? but with that, I could not keep my moped wheel in the rear!

Sure you could...use the 9c as a mid-drive like was done on the 'bent earlier this month I think it was. Dangit I can't remember the thread or the member name.

Yeah I considered a mid-drive, But without multispeed, direct drive would be simpler and more efficient no?
one thing that would be interesting would be to use a fast wind 9c, to re-terminate it in delta, and to run a 1/2 gearing to the rear. It would keep most characteristics of the hub, but the efficiency at low rpm would bet greater no?
So I would need to find a non-laced fast hubbie cheap somewhere...

I have a good working hubmotor from an HG-1000. It is one of these http://www.izipusa.com/26-izip-hg1000-e ... -bike.html 36V in a 24" wheel would do about 18 MPH in a heavy lead acid scooter/bike

It is an Atoma. I would say it's size is between a crystallite 4 and 5 series. You would need to up the voltage top get the power you want, but it might work for you. If you are interested me PM me. I will let it go relatively cheap.

this motor whas interesting, but shipping from the us to europe is just too expensive! I am really trying to find the motor that will suit my needs, and cheap also! Not an easy task
I think a turnigy 130kv could do it, at 40v 50a, but on the long term? They are still back-ordered :/ but that would be 110$ delivered, within budjet...

hey! I just made a video of the trike, and I played a bit with the workmates! There was too much cars on the road, I will try to get the chain working tomorow, and I'll make more vids and testing! the steering is worcking well, and seems to corner like a go cart!

Awesome. It looks like it turns on a dime. Very sharp. If the bars get in the way of your legs maybe you can go a little wider or make a push-pull arrangment with with a vertical stick on either side.. Actually, steering and pedaling seems to be OK from first testing perspective, so I think it will stay like that for now, as I don't have much space inside to integrate a push-pull arrangement. I really need to weight the thing, but it's quite heavy!

Yep, this migth be an issue, but the trike seems to coutersteer well, we'll see with more power

It looks like some slight modifications will be necessary if you wish to cover the frame. Your knees and feet extend beyond the boundaries of the frame when you pedal. Looks like a lot of fun though. Makes me wish I had time to build.

Yup, but in the vids, the cranks are 180mm road bike cranks, and I plan 165 or so, so it should be OK.
Today I tested another alternator, works better than the first one, but produce a lot of heat at 1000w. Either alternators are no good for ebike apps, or they don't spin fast enough in my trike with 11 to 56 gearing and 1.7m perimeter wheel.
so next step is to get a powerful hubbie I can get a big hub like John in CR's for 320$ delivered, with controller, throttle, DC/DC... My budget allow it but with little money spare!

Tested it some more, with another alternator (delta-driven) I got 35kph max and 15wh/km with heavy pedaling on flat, so it does not meet my expectations. I reworked a but the steering and lowered the frame, now i have really good visibility! I think I will also reduce by a good margin the wheels camber, as it adds too much rolling resistance. I just hope it will handle 30kph sharp U-turns like before!
I also ordered a motor. Sorry all, but it's a hub! It's a BPM speed rated 500w, 4kg, 180$ delivered on bmsbattery!

I need to fit front brakes! I want to drift!
Not much infos on this motor on the forum, but it seems that it has 2x wider gears than the MAC motors, produce really good torque, but is slower. So I will just pump up the voltage I'm thinking 72v 8ah that would be 240$ in cells (delivered) in 3c li-mn .
Would need to upgrade my controller also, 63v caps inside...

hello all, it's been a long time since last update, and unfortunately I did not make much progression!
A good thing is that now I have some cash to spend on builds, I follow a partnership learning curse in mechanical engineering, and one month out of two I'm employee of Thales underwater systems, we work on winches for the usa navy choppers. This earns me 550€ per month and 50% of that will be dedicated to the build.
The bad is that I don't have holidays, and the new house doesn't have a garage yet...I only have free time during weekends, and the workshop is open when I'm at work


Now for the build : I just received a cohnchimotor (or whatever) 750w hubie kit, that I planed to use on a full susp bmx, but I forgot the idea when I grabbed the thing, witch is really really heavy. So I think this motor is going to be used on the trike
I still need to make the body panels, thinking of using good quality coroplast, fast, cheap, will look OK. Next would be fitting disc calipers for the front wheels.

I need a workshop !
