Just an update on the Aeloian 170 kv motor. Yes it does have a skirt bearing and looks very similar to the 63-74 in construction. It does however seem to loose sync much more easily then the 63-74. Aeloian 200kv motor might be better for sync. I didnt see much advantage in terms of low speed operation in relation to heat and current draw. Still think the 63-74 is the best choice. Wish they would hurry up and come back in stock. I will order the Aeloian 200kv and see how that goes.

I thought the SK 6374 might NOT have a skirt bearing ...Thats why it is the only one that isn't on back order I would guess... If any of you have a motor you want to part with , I'm a buyer..
I've changed my drive to running on the can , and it really ran well ... The 280 KV was a little faster than i wanted to go , so i'm thinking 200 or less would be great ... Guess I will put my order into Hobby King , and get in line ... Maybe I'll try the Aeolian 6374 200 since we know it has the skirt bearing...

I thank you all for the replys ... Bill...

Not me. But I like the adjustable LVC, and aluminium enclosure. Might also be relatively straight forward to water proof.
I think I avoided buying one last time around becuase of the poor user rating, but reading the reviews thery are all around an incorrect label, not performance. Not much feedback on performance in the reviews though...

Let us know how it goes if you get one. Otherwise I'll buy one next time I place an order.

I bought all the available motors suitable for my friction drive from HobbyKing recently, and the only one that had a skirt bearing was the 6354-250kv.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... oduct=5144

But they appear to be out of stock at the moment too.

The Aeolian would be the best bet.

Adrian,
have you run the TK 6354 -250kv yet ?
The one i have so far has refused to stay in sync with any combo of controller or setting that i have tried.

Kepler, .. is that with the Castle controller ??..or one of the Turnigy's ?

Well I have the Turnigy dlux 100A SBEC coming ... They say it's shipped , could take 48 days :( I took the 63-64-280 motor apart and it looks ok , with a little luck, maybe it's just the 85A esc that fried ... I'll let yall know how it works out , when up and running ... Bill

Has anyone tried to track an order from Hobby King ? Another question .. How do you log in to Hobby King's US warehouse ? They say it's open ...Castle Creations is state side , is that right

I used the tracking option for a delivery to Australia and it was spot on. It told me exactly where the package was at any day, and even told me when(to the hour almost) to expect the courier at the door ! :o
Logging on to your local w/house is just a matter of picking the "USA warehouse" option from the RH side of the HK "Home" screen.

I got my new ESC & servo tester a while back , the motor didn't go up in smoke with the rest of the parts... I'm running the 6364-280 motor with the new 100-120 amp esc... The Black & Decker trimmer battery leaves a lot to be desired , but serves till I can get 5000mah 6s.. I have about 30 miles on this set up , so far I like it ... I haven't put Friction tape on the can ,And don't think I will ... It works like a friction clutch on take off , I peddle up to 8-10 mph before twisting the ST wide open .. Made some more changes to the mount .. It's about as simple as it gets... Some pix if interested... Bill

Looking good mate.

How is the new controller. I was thinking of buying one to test out, but don't really have a need for one as all the other controllers I have work fine.

Adrian .. The controller is good, working fine , Stays cool but I'm only running 18 volts .. The programing is the same as the Turnegy 85 amp that you have, and I got from Spinner with the two large caps he put on .. I do miss the on -off switch though.. I don't have any real tech stuff to tell you ... I pretty much go by sound , and feel I guess.. I can say that Black & Decker gets pretty hot & doesn't go very far on a charge.. The controller has low voltage settings, witch is a good thing ...

I have a question ... I have the TWO wire on-off switch from the old 85 esc ... Could this switch work by taping into one of the THREE wires going to the Servo tester ?? the 2 came out of the controller before..

Yeah me too. I love the on off switch. I is the main reason the controller is my favorite.

You could use the switch to cut the 5v line. This will stop the throttle working, but the controller will still be on.

Simple. When you play your video you will see in the URL that YouTube has given it a unique identifier. That's the string of numbers and letters following "watch?v=" and possibly followed by & and more stuff. Copy and paste just the identifier (nothing else) between the opening and closing tags the youtube button on the reply form here. Done. :)

Like the brake post mounting. 8)

That little shim you put in at the start - is it a safety device so that the motor won't engage with the tyre if someone fools around with it when it's parked?

JennyB.... The shim has two steps on it ... The first step lightly engages the motor to the tire, for softer take off, kind of like a slip clutch... The second step on the shim is thicker and holds the motor on the tire more firmly , for less slippage on take off , and wet weather.. ( haven't tried that yet ) When the shim is out the motor is completely off the tire.. Thanks for asking... Bill

Adrian... I really like running w/o the grip tape , much easier on the tire ... Thanks for the posting my vid... Bill

Yup It's a little to long , and repetitious... I haven't learned how to edit yet ...

SPINNER !!! This is the same 280 motor I got from you , running strong even after smoking the controller ,And ST.. I'm running w/o grip tape on the can , and liking it ... Just 18 volts though ...

Looking good mate.

I have been trying out the no grip tape as well. Went for a nice 40km ride, averaged ~7wh/km, and 27kph.
But I spent about 5-10km on dirt/gravel tracks and that contributed to rubbing the paint off the surface of the motor can. Apart from that it was great.

It does sound like yours slips a bit under hard acceleration. But I might just be hearing stuff, who knows.

- Adrian

P.S. to embed the youtube videos like below, jsut put the weird numebr bit from the youtube url in the you tube tags like this:

Code: Select all

Then it should look like this:

Fun video Bill, thanks for posting! I'm glad the motor and ST are still working good for you. Every new variation of your mount just keeps getting better! Has anyone else ridden your bike under power? what does your wife think about it now that you've used it for a while?

My wife and I have begun using Glucosamine and Chondroitin tabs (52 yrs old), and our joints feel noticeably better. Even so, I may get a recumbent some day, and I like the style you have.

I got an email asking if the single brake mount was strong enough to handle the torque of the drive.. The mount it's self is certainly strong enough , but the bolt that holds the drive ,and brake arm could be the week point ... So that is the reason for the JAY HOOK under the chain stay.. So far I'm :D
