I did 450wh of testing, it all works well BUT the frame is flexing under load and there is still some chain issues.
I recorded a peak power of 2200w, max speed of 65kph (on flat).

Awesome! Im telling you, its all over for the RC motors once some more people build this type of bike. Its just so cool having huge climbing power AND the top speed of a nice hub combined with the simplicity of one as well. I know I will never do it any other way..
Power is a fascinating thing, the more you have, the more you want, but the real power is having the restraint not to use it all at once...............Um...Yeah..

The harder you work.....The luckier you get!!

Hmmm... I think rc motors still have some life left. I propose an all-out hub mid drive vs rc race!! Super moto style, with some off road and some on road. Maybe we should limit the battery current/capacity too, so it will be a contest of efficiency :P

But I gotta say, both of your guys bikes sound pretty fun...and are probably a lot quieter than mine as well. I bet you could have a ton of torque with a fast-hound hub and high gearing.

My bike weights 32kg with 16s 10ah headway, it would probably have weigthed 3-4kg less with a RC drive, but I think it has more potential with the hubbie. I'm all for a race dirt tracker style :P
Videos are coming out quite well!

It looks very good, but its a shame that the rc didnt work out for you,

as regards "its over for rc motors" na dont think so  you have all the benefits of a mid mounted hubby going through the rear gears but at a fraction of the weight and cost , my first rc bike was only 19kg and the one Im working on now will be about the same and hopefully nearly silent , except for the dam freewheel I got, its a clicker :( ,

That bike looks amazing, windtalker. Bet the torque is awesome.

The entire frame flexes, not just the motor mount?

Nice work. Looks like a hoot to ride.
Love the burnouts. Love the stair climbing. Love the ability to use the gears. Well done.

RC motors vs hub motors.......

Well..... they both have the same topology.... It's just a trade off between torque/speed (& noise!) and weight. :)

Thanks guys! I will try to get a nicer video next weekend with side panels for the battery and painted hub and supports.

I just see hub motors as huge low kv outruners, because it's what they are  I don't have any complex wearing a frock

I just started a thread to share some media about hub motor mid drives, Whiplash you could probably contribute with some pictures and videos?

I modified the axle to have a M8 on one side and a M6 on the other just to retain the motor and supports, painted everything, and made a black coroplast battery box

I also managed to snap a chain  The failure was probably related to going WOT on a low gear, and a bad use of the chain tool :?:

What is your opinion on the suitability of one of those sub 500w tiny hub motors for a mid drive setup such as yours? I'm thinking that it may be one way to get some stealth out of a mid mount hub motor design.

You're running max 2000 W right now?

The smaller hubs should work well, I am trying to get my brother to let me setup a small one on his bike pulling around 750 watts through the little MXUS that Cell man sells. I think it will do just about any hill you need, it will just do it slower than a big motor.... That and your on road speed will not be anywhere near as fast, I am guessing it will pull him along around 25MPH at best, but he is happy with that..

yeah that's one thing I would love to try too, on a ligthweigth dirt jumping bike with 44v5ah, just to get a small kick in the butt before a jump :)

About the smallest you are going to get is a 63mm outrunner

True, à 63mm motor is hart to beat for sub 3kw systems!
But you need to build à two stage reduction to the rear wheel or 3 stage to the BB. With the rpm of a High spinning rc motor, multiple gears are needed only if you want à really High top speed with a small motor. Plus relyable controlers are hard to setup, if aviable!
