low cost 200W fixie friction drive

Postby nonlineartom » Sat Apr 21, 2012 6:13 am

A little project I'd like to work on... a super lightweight fixie bike with a road legal 200/250W assist friction drive to make hills a little easier.

Can anyone recommend any particular hardware, I'm thinking a big Turnigy outrunner is overkill.

Powerplant I'd like to use would be a single pack of 6s 5000mah to keep weight to an absolute minimum.

I'm thinking a small outrunner, RC ESC and servo tester mounted on the handlebar. It would literally only be used on big hills and I'd like to keep the whole system below 2KG

so what's best?
Commuter bike: 10T MAC Schwinn Panther Beach Cruiser on 12S LiPo, super stealth hill eater
Forest trail eater: Crystalyte 5306 KMX Viper with 24" wheel. 100A controller 18S LiPo
Pocket rocket: 8T MAC e-BMX 18s LiPo. Missile for testing to destruction
Summer ride: 8T MAC Kona Joe MTB / chopper / beach cruiser hybrid bike. 24" wheels and a lot lot of style.

Would this little motor just burn out under constant heavy load?

at 6s, 22V nominal I would be feeding it 10A constant in order to keep it fully legal.

Read through the commuter booster thread from Adrian and also the threads that Kelper has posted. Not sure about the motor you posted, 5mm for shaft seems awefuly easy to be bent

Seems the best for lightest weight is 5054 motor, for best survivability it would be the new 6374 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... Motor.html with good windings, skirt bearing and a cooling fan inbuilt.

For 200W you would be better off running at 4s to keep it simple and in the right range to be able to assist. Just my thoughts
