Anyone ever considered building an e-racer wheelchair?

I'm sure it's been done, but might be fun (for anyone, disability or not).

You always come with funny building ideas :D
After your first delta trike crash experience, I believe this one might be a good shortcut.
Riding a wheelchair is making sure you have one right after the crash, if it survives the tree  .
Make it fool-proof, and I will make a better fool.

I don't see how that would be possible, given the hub centre steering, and driving the back wheels would make it a wheelie monster. The only thing I can suggest is - kepler drive on the steering arm, and lean well forward!

theres a chap on the wheelchairdriver forum nicknamed burgerman. hes the engineer that helped mod the hyperions chargers to work wirelessly using the cheap serial bluetooth adapters. anyway he also is an ex motorbike rider and builds some pretty powerful albeit beastly wheelchairs, not sure they are like your idea though more offroad type but nonetheless a decent guy to have a dialog with.

Keep in mind that if your legs weren't disabled you could actually use your feet to steer, or some other type of setup. It might be fun.

On that note, I read that some non-disabled guys like wheelchair racing and that the whole idea is controversial with some people. I would think that if the legs are immobilized it would be fair for anyone to race wheelchairs. Why not? It looks like a lot of fun, and it's outstanding exercise for the upper body.

But, in my opinion, people with no use of their lower half should go to something even more awesome: bodyboarding. You can totally do it without using your legs (although it's much easier if you legs work). You could get just as pitted as anyone else, and you'll still be able to swim after a wipeout.

The ocean plays no favorites when it wants to give you a beating.

Being disabled (para for over 20 years) and having paddling out into the surf on a moderately long surf board on my recent trip to Bali, i couldnt imagine doing it on a body board without being able to use legs, they are semi floaters and without using legs with flippers on your feet, paddling into a wave would be very difficult for a para IMHO..

RE: abled bodied people racing wheelchairs...if anything they would be at a disadvantage, paras legs waste away resulting in lighter body weight...abled bodies have the extra weight of their legs to push around...Balance in a race chair is neither here noe there with the use of ones legs IMO...a 'standard' chair is a different story.

That's cool that you paddled out in Indonesia. You could do it on a body board. When I first started riding waves I was about seven, and didn't start standup until I was about ten. I had a bodyboard when I was nine that was my own, and once I learned how to angle on the unbroken face I was in heaven. To this day, 35 years later, I still remember how magical of a feeling it was.

But I never had any kind of swim fins. It was all paddling and no kicking. I didn't even know how to use my legs and feet for turning. I did it all with the upper body. One day I stood up and stayed on my feet for a few seconds, which put an immediate end to bodyboarding and I switched to stand up surfing.

About six years later I broke a bone in my foot and the docter said no surfing for six weeks. I sold my board and ordered a new one. During the waiting period I took to boogieboarding again. You can develop the upper body to catch waves on a body board as easily as a surfboard (easier actually, because a bodyboarder can catch steeper waves. The hardest part for the stand up surfer is the drop).

But start in small surf. If you get barreled (tubed, as they used to call it...and often still do) you will be addicted.

Plus, you can buy webbed gloves that give even more thrust. They work really well. Most surfers think they are uncool. Their loss.

I'll say the same here as on the other post you've made. First posts that are really just spam adverts for your business aren't going to win you many friends here.

If you want to advertise, then post your ad in the online market, NOT in the middle of another thread.
Please ask questions on the forum, rather than by PM, as it helps others and you'll get a better range of answers.

Instead, why not just keep your advert links for your company/organisation where they belong, in the "Marketplace" section of the forum and just share your knowledge and experience of designing/building electrically assisted diabaled vehicles to these threads?

I think I've made the point in the other thread that jumping in to existing threads and doing the internet equivalent of shouting adverts at people for your first couple of posts isn't seen as being a reasonable way to gain credibility and acceptance here.

exactly what he said ^^,,

Start your own introduction thread at the very least, instead of random postings in other people's threads until you gain a sense of how things work around here. 8)

If you goal is to sell your invention/bike/whatever.... then start a post in the marketplace....
