Question: do you think a cyclist rear view mirror would have prevented this ?

Think I remember seeing that before - it hurts just to watch! I've never used a mirror, but have heard that once you do, you're never comfortable riding without one again.

I look back a lot, and am pretty cowardly about my choice of roads. I have no qualms about getting up on the sidewalk, which is illegal in my town. Looks like he didn't have that option anyway (no sidewalk).
