That list on no-nose.com is great.

The one thing I don't like about mine is that it puts me too far forward.

My name is icecube and I am fluffy and I tend to have rectal roid irritation and discomfort after long 40+ mile rides. (waves as if its an AA meeting). I often find myself side saddling or riding one one cheek to ease the discomfort. Its a burden that last for week or so. Medicated pads soothe my brown eye as i long for a cure My taint aches with every thy rubbing ste. Heaven forbid i have as Super Sonic Breakfast burrito with Jalepenos... I cry and die a little on the inside everytime i sit ... In this is a sad truth and comedic humor.. you sort through the bs. I thought about a thud buster... Gel seats are uncomfortable to pedal. I havent tried a brooks saddle.. There is a netting style seat that i hear maybe the ticket.. any other idears...

This thread made me make a conscious effort to check the situation down there during a ride today. I have a normal, traditional shape saddle, mounted horizontal. Nothing soft seems to be bearing any weight on the nose. All my weight seems to be on the sit bones (verified by the fact that these are the only spots that get sore on a long ride).

This may be because of my fairly upright riding position and/or I seem to have fairly narrow sit bones. It's a slightly odd thing to say, but I can sit quite comfortably on a fence post.

As they always say, your mileage may vary!

If cycling had ever given me pins and needles in the cock I doubt I'd have done it twice...

Trust your junk!

But I hear the argument for a no nose saddle if you are in it ALL DAY like a bike cop is likely to be. I am fortunate to sit 8-9 hours in an executive chair, but even that gets "old" and I have to "switch it up" from time to time. I would want the plushest, least constrictive saddle if I had to be in it 6+ hours.

I will vouch for the Hobson EasySeat.

Traditional saddles turned me off bikes completely for several years. Wanting to get back to it I started researching ergonomic saddles. With my background in human anatomy the noseless principle advocated by Hobson made intuitive sense, and I bought one.

Once you get the 3-axis adjustment dialled in it really is quite perfect. No pressure anywhere but the ischial tuberosities. each pad even flexes independently of the other, maintaining perfect support when pedalling.

I'm a big guy with a mostly upright riding position. The Hobson seat is quite small, yet perfectly comfortable for me. I am NOT changing back, despite being ridiculed by uppity bike purists here.

Electrifying the beast just rounds out the comfort issue perfectly. :)

I rode a bike everywhere from 7 years old to 16. I mean evrywhere. But 16 means a drivers liscence and that ended biking for many years. In my 40's I decided to get back into biking. I could not find a saddle that was painless so I gave it up again. The family jewels are too important. I don't like pain and my most important pleasure was at risk. An easy decision to quit bikes. Time passed and I needed a new idea for exercise. I had a girlfriend that was very into recumbents. Game changer for me. I ride a Catrike Pocket tadpole recumbent. Anything for the family jewels! The trike added a grin to my exercise. The grin got bigger with a hub motor. There is no trade off of any kind that I would consider at the risk of my most important parts. It is walking or recumbents for me.

Recumbent seats are even more important as you get older and the muscle starts to thin out in yout glutes! I really can't rride more than a mile or 2 on a conventional bike seat. Recumbents +123. We can easily do 20 miles on the trikes.

If your saddle is set up appropriately, you are sitting on your ischial tuberosities, not your penis or any part of its support system.

Think of a bike saddle as being like shoes. You can't wear just any old shoes without hurting your feet. You can't expect to comfortably and harmlessly wear 5 inch heels or ballet point shoes just because you think they look cool. You have to use shoes that are appropriate for the activity. And you have to wear your own size. Apply the same reasoning to saddles.

Cyclists have been using normal saddles without harm for 150 years. Horsemen have been doing it for millennia. As a group, we may be softer and lazier than all those guys, but we are not physiologically different.

Noseless saddles are the work of non-cyclists. The nose is there for a reason-- not because it's comfy, but because it is a handle by which the bicycle can be controlled. Try riding no-handed on a noseless saddle and see what I mean. It makes no more sense to remove the saddle nose when it causes you discomfort than to ditch the handlebar for the same reason. What you really need to do if you have discomfort is make adjustments in seat height and angle, or change your seat-to-handlebar relationship, or switch to a different saddle if necessary.

If you have a "one size" bike (e.g. a department store bike) and you aren't comfortable on it, well duh. One size does not fit all. A stupid saddle with no nose will not fix that.

Noseless saddles are an example of the consumer derangement syndrome that leads people to buy stuff as a substitute for using their brains. Like recumbent bikes, they are a misguided assertion that generations of accomplished folks in the past couldn't possibly have been doing it right.

Here's one saddle that works very well for me. It is a lot firmer than it looks, which is a benefit:

Image
Electra cruiser saddle with elastomers

Here's another one that has worked for me and every one of my customers who's tried it. It is too soft for me, but the center slot keeps that from becoming a problem:

Chalo, come ride with me and watch me ride my noseless saddle no handed with the cruise control on. Its not as easy to handle as a bike with a nose saddle, but its still no problem at all.

I don't understand how so many guys can ride a saddle that smacks their balls on every single bump.

Coasting a bike no-hands is a lot easier than pedaling one no-hands. You have to have something to push against, and that's the saddle nose.

I don't understand how so many guys can ride a saddle that smacks their balls on every single bump.

If that's what a normal saddle does to you, you are doing something wrong.

Do you really think cyclists have been doing it wrong for 150 years? I think there are a few more plausible explanations.

It's not an issue so much with spandex bike shorts because they hold things away a bit from the saddle nose.

But really, your junk is resting on the saddle nose. There is no other way about it. Maybe I'm just extra sensitive down there and it bothers me.

All I can say is that since I hang freely, it's a completely different, enjoyable world for me.

How often do you need to ride while off the seat? While holding only one side of the bars? These are also circumstances when riding with a noseless saddle leads to impairment.

You don't technically need bars with both sides, but why would you want to go without?

That's a bit of a stretch. I can ride without a seat much faster and with much more control than with only one hand on the bars with a seat.

You could strap your ass to the seat with a belt and it won't make a difference.

And I don't ride with only one hand on the bar unless I'm in a situation where it would be possible to ride without hands completely. Especially on my e-bike.

You need both bars on a bike more than you need a nose on your seat. Try again.

I can only relate my experience with noseless saddles. At the Seattle Bike Expo one year long ago, I bought an Ergo The Seat, because it looked like it had a good width and firmness for me.

I tried it on bike after bike, but it always rendered the ride insecure without delivering any comfort benefits. Eventually, I tried it on my sidecar bike:

Image

This bike presents a challenge for normal saddles. When the side wheel hits a bump, the seat racks sideways, hard. I've had bruises on my inner thighs after long sessions on this bike. So this is the one application I have encountered where a noseless saddle proved to be better than the real thing. It's still no more comfortable to sit on than a real bike seat, but it has a specific quality that helps.

My choice - Allay nomad 1.1 with airspan system. Very good saddle. Just need to correctly select the size.

The Nomad 1.1 likes to travel and if you like to spend time casually riding the bike paths or city streets this model is for you. The patented AirSpan™ system provides miles of comfort while the pre-set air cushion prevents numbness. Gel pads under the sit-bone area provides support and the elastomer suspension springs take out vibration.
