Controller Selection: Infineon?

Postby cbr shadow » Tue Jun 19, 2012 11:13 am

I have a Crystalyte HS3540 and will be using an A123 battery from Cellman (66v, 13.8Ah). I want the install to go as smoothly as possible since this is my first ebike. I'm thinking of ordering a controller through Cellman too (Infineon 12FET 40A) but am I setting myself up for issues with having to match connectors and do a lot of rewiring? Would I be better off with a Crystalyte controller, or Lyen? Plug and play would obvoiusly be preferred.. I'd like to plug in the throttle, battery, 3-spd switch, motor, and ride off.. is it that easy? :)
Please let me know which controller I should be going with..
Thanks,
Ryan

If you don't want to mess with connectors, the chrystalite controller is the way to go since everything will match.
If it is a sensorless motor, I would also recommend the Chrystalite controller.

If you want performance and have a sensored motor, it is another story and you'd better start making your own wiring and adapt adequate connectors.
Make it fool-proof, and I will make a better fool.

I dont mind adapting connectors. I just want it to be very clear where eveyrthing goes. i've read about people getting their first ebike and colors dont match, connectors aren't right, and they're plugging things in wrong. I'd like it to be very obvious.
It's a sensored motor and will be 66v and 40A, maybe a little higher in the future but that's about how I'll keep it.

Then buy a "kit" where everything is matched up. If too late for that, then the clyte controller has the best possibility of plug and play matchup.

It's likely that Lyens can tell you by now what the right color combos are for his controllers and the clyte motor, If he knows who you bought it from.

I have a kit that uses the Infineon controller and love it. It is responsive and smooth now that it has been tuned. My previous set-up used a sensorless motor and a Lyen controller. It worked fine if under 48 volts. Anything over 48 volts caused a timing issue and a stutter. I never found a solution for it. Agian that was with a sensorless unit. I assume the Crytalyte HS3540 is a sensored unit and would recommend the Infineon you looked at. It is the same unit I am running on an NC2806. Tuning is easy, just follow the directions provided to me in another thread thanks to hjns.
