Indian official aims to take Japanese bicycle technology back home:

Starts:
An Indian official recently toured Japan’s bicycle industry with an aim to transfer the country’s cutting-edge technology and know-how to India, which is currently facing severe competition in the sector from China.

Devinder Pal Singh Kharbanda, director of industries in the northern state of Punjab, said in an interview with Kyodo News earlier this month that his visit’s aim was to learn “what Japan has done well in the cycle industry, so we can learn from Japanese technology.”

India is the second-largest bicycle producer after China and “70 to 80 percent of cycles in India are produced in Punjab,” said Kharbanda, who is also the chairman of a Ludhiana institute that offers worker training and conducts bicycle testing.

Rimac Will Show Tesla Roadster-Rivaling Electric Supercar In 2018:
https://www.motor1.com/news/222645/rima ... ter-rival/

Part of that expansion is thanks in part to a $36 million investment from Camel Group, Asia’s largest battery manufacturer. The $36 million cash injection not only will benefit the Rimac Automobili company, but also the Greyp electric bicycle company. Greyp will receive $3.6 million (€3 million) in allocated funds.

Huh. ESB "Search found 0 matches: BicyLift"?

Image

This unique trailer allows for bicycle delivery of palletized loads:
https://www.treehugger.com/bikes/unique ... loads.html

Image

Includes:
A French startup has built a bicycle trailer that allows a single person to move a loaded Euro pallet by bike and by hand, which can be an alternative solution to lift-gate trucks and pallet jacks in crowded city streets. FlexiModal's BicyLift is a delivery tool that could make last-mile logistics much cleaner and quieter, as it allows pallets to be moved from depot to street to destination without the use of fossil fuels.

The BicyLift is designed to work with standard-sized Euro pallets measuring 120 x 80 cm, as well as with an "urban container," and it essentially combines a pallet jack (or forklift) and a delivery vehicle into a single conveyance. The device can be attached to or removed from a bicycle "with a single movement, using a single hand," and the 3-position drawbar allows the BicyLift to be adjusted to pull behind a bike, moved by hand, or parked. Mechanical disk brakes that work in concert with the bicycle's brakes, as well as a separate brake handle on the drawbar, provide secure braking both on and off of the bike.

Ends:
According to the company, several French companies are using the BicyLift, and recently NYC's Breakaway Courier has begun using both the trailer and urban containers in its delivery and logistics operations.

VietNamNet.vn - Báo điện tử chính thống hàng đầu Việt Nam
Electric bicycle producers gather momentum
("Electric bicycle producers are getting in a fierce competition by releasing new lines, applying smart technology, and lowering prices."):
http://english.vietnamnet.vn/fms/busine ... entum.html
Brand advantages

All electric bicycle brands showed their strengths at the Vietnam International Bicycle Exhibition 2017 during November 16-19 in Hanoi.

Besides the modern and innovative products of Laux, Trinx, Sava, MantisBike, and famous brands over the world, such as Giant, Gitane, Dahon, Bianchi, Peugeot, Definitive, Puch, Look, Merida, and Galaxy, Takuda and Yadea showcased their new products. Additionally, a series of promotions and gifts from almost all brands are on offer to attract the attention of customers and domestic and foreign partners.

C-Umi is an electric bicycle line by Yadea Tech Group from China. The group ships products to Vietnam, the US, Germany, and 66 other countries around the world. Yadea has been present in Vietnam for eight years and released new product lines this year. C-Umi designs are very impressive, simple, lightweight, and fashionable. The product line also comes with a size suitable to Asian people and those living in high buildings as it is easy to get into lifts.

Liu Yeming, chairman of Yadea, said the new electric bicycle products can be unlocked remotely and offer anti-theft software and USB charging, making them a perfect fit for young riders living in urban areas. Additionally, the bicycle’s dashboard now displays more information. In the future, they will integrate internet solutions to turn the bicycles smarter.

“This technology has already been applied in China and will be applied in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in the coming time,” said Liu Yeming.

Despite being on the market for only four years, Takuda Motor is a popular brand due to their continuous application of new technology and suitable prices for middle income Vietnamese people.

At the exhibition, Takuda introduced new product lines applying Bosch’s exclusive control technology and charger saving battery, which enable a longer and smoother ride. The average price of this line ranges from $440 to $660 and it is distributed in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. However, the exports only account for 10 per cent of Takuda’s $15-million total annual revenue.

Great market potential

According to the Vietnam Auto Motorcycle and Bicycle Association (VAMOBA), there are a total of 400,000 electric motors and bicycles in the country, up 30 per cent on-year. They are expected to become more popular than motorbikes.

Nguyen Huu Son, director general of Thong Nhat Company Limited and vice chairman of VAMOBA, said that the electric bicycle market is evolving very fast, with the emergence of many famous bicycle brands worldwide.

Vietnam currently has an issue with the high number of motorbikes in use, which leads to traffic jams and pollution, while renewable energy sources are being promoted to protect the environment. As a result, electric bikes might be the right choice in the future and Vietnam is emerging as a potential market for famous brands.

Yadea will focus on high-level and environmentally friendly 2-wheel electric vehicles. Liu Yeming revealed that Yadea will set up a factory in Vietnam for production and assembly, equipped with high-technology and new techniques. Yadea will collaborate with local companies to break open the market.

Meanwhile, Ta Quoc Dat, director general of Takuda, affirmed that the company will raise the localisation rate of components manufacturing by cutting imports from China by 60 per cent. Many components are already made in Vietnam because Takuda set up a $5-million factory in Tu Son (Bac Ninh province) with the capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year.

“The quality of a vehicle depends on its key parts, and we decided to import all of these from famous brands for our products,” said Dat.

Could Electric Bikes Make the World Go Round? These Groups Think So:
https://associationsnow.com/2017/11/ele ... ups-think/

Starts:
The electric bike, which uses battery power to help put a little power behind the pedal, has become a major hit in Asia and is growing in Europe. Associations see major potential in the U.S., as long as regulations don’t slow things down too much.

Ends:
Beyond the regulatory issues, groups representing the industry, like the Electric Bike Association (EBA), have taken steps to get the vehicles in front of the public, such as showing them off in expo settings. The price is generally right—you can often get a good electric bike for less than $1,000—but the public may still be unfamiliar with the technology. That’s where EBA is stepping in, taking the devices through the expo circuit.

“This is kind of an experiential tour to introduce electric bikes primarily to people who have never ridden and might have just heard about them,” the group’s executive director, Ray Verhelst, told the Chicago Tribune of EBA’s efforts to show off such bikes.

Steps like that, small as they are, might be just what the industry needs to pull ahead of electric cars.

THEFT/CRIMINAL DAMAGE/DRUG POSSESSION/FALSE REPORTING/WARRANT, BULLHEAD CITY — Charles Bradley Keeling Jr., 27, was arrested on suspicion of theft and criminal damage. Tabitha Ann Cathline Gillis, 23, was arrested for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear and on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs and false reporting to police. Police said Gillis had about 0.6 grams of methamphetamine in her backpack. Both arrests occurred Sunday. Police arrived at the 1700 block of Highway 95 on a report that an electric bicycle had been stolen. A witness told officers Keeling might have taken it. Police went to find Keeling in the 2000 block of Rancho Colorado. Police contacted Gillis there, where, police said, she lied about Keeling being inside the residence. The stolen electric bike was on the bed under a blanket. Keeling was hiding in the closet. The bicycle had some damage and was returned to the victim. Both suspects were sent to county jail.

Hehe... Chris Nolte and his Propel Electric Bikes in Brooklyn, New York has been getting lots of nice PR in recent years... and has picked up in his inventory the Bulls TWENTY4 E 2018 electric bike:

https://propelbikes.com/product/bulls-twenty4-e-2018/

Image

... where he notes:
Top Speed: Like most electric bikes sold in the US, the Bulls TWENTY4 E 2018 has a top speed of 20 mph in keeping with federal law. There are ways to remove this speed limit for use on private roadways, however the jury is still out on how this will impact your Warranty. Until we get an official word from Bulls, we’re going to err on the side of caution. Please contact us to learn about the concerns with making this modification.

For 40 years, working with hundreds of thousands of inspiring people, Campaign for Better Transport has fought for better public transport, walking and cycling, for the sake of communities and the environment.

An independent charity, we work by providing well-researched, practical solutions to transport problems, pressuring national and local government to adopt them, and empowering ordinary people up and down the country.
... from the UK...

Call for fair funding for e-bikes:
http://www.bettertransport.org.uk/e-bikes

Starts:
Converting from petrol and diesel motors to low emission vehicles, including electric cars, is an important part of cutting carbon emissions and cleaning up air pollution. So is switching to using electric bikes. E-bikes and e-cargo bikes for deliveries help cut congestion too.

The Government's Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) gives grants for converting to electric cars and vans - but not to electric bikes. We think that's a missed opportunity.

E-bikes are much cheaper than electric cars, so this would be good value for public money as well as fitting in with the Cycling & Walking Investment Strategy.

The internet's largest community for car enthusiasts
... and:
Car Throttle was started in 2009 after founder Adnan Ebrahim realised there was no online platform for people like him: young, millennial brain-dead car enthusiasts. Dubbed ‘Buzzfeed for cars’, the site quickly evolved into a vibrant community serving millions of users - called CTzens - who follow the brand on its apps and major social media platforms.
... and they run an online web forum, where username "Mark Mason" posts:
I would rather walk. I'd rather drive a Prius. An Electric Bike? Why?
Yet another reason to never live in the big city. Never even have to consider this shit. The thing might make sense for some city person..or an enviromental yuppie…but it doesn’t make sense to a petrolhead.
Hope everyone had a laugh.

HEY!!! A travel site that ISN'T tripadvisor.com!

Image
(They say:)
Hey There!
We're Geoff and Katie Matthews, two Canadians in our thirties who quit our jobs, sold our stuff, and set out to see the world. Now we live nomadically, travelling the world and making travel videos & travel-themed coloring books for grown-ups, but it wasn't always that way...
Dublin Bike Tour: How to See the Best of Dublin in 2 Hours
("Dublin Bike Tour: How We Saw The Best of Dublin in 2 Hours…Without Breaking a Sweat. Our Review of Lazy Bike Tour’s Dublin Bike Tour on Electric Bikes!"):
https://www.wandertooth.com/dublin-bike ... in-dublin/

Starts:
A Dublin Bike Tour That’s Surprisingly Fun…

E though we’re fairly active when we travel, we’re not in the habit of seeking out particularly active tours, and, until this trip, had always opted for walking tours to get our first glances of a new city, as opposed to bike tours. Sweating our way up hills, dodging traffic, and trying to maintain a sense of balance on two wheels while also trying to get to know a city just never seemed like the right sightseeing combo … and no one wants to end up a sweaty mess when you’re living out of a suitcase, with limited clothing options. So when we saw a “Lazy Bike Tour” on our 6-day Dublin itinerary this fall, we weren’t exactly sure what to think.
:)

Includes:
Our group found the electric bikes very easy to use. We had a really mixed bag of ages and abilities on our tour, with participants in their twenties all the way to early/mid sixties. One of our tour-mates had a bad hip, and most of us hadn’t been on a bike in years. Even with that massive range of abilities, all of us managed fairly well, and found the bikes comfortable and easy to operate.

They operate as a normal bike, but the electric assistance means it requires very little effort. There is even a little “electric boost” function in the handle which you can use when starting from a dead stop, or if you need a little extra push.

(Wiki (Giggle Translate):)
Yonhap is the largest news agency in South Korea . It is a semi-public company based in Seoul. It mainly provides the various South Korean media with dispatches, articles and photographs. Yonhap also has a television channel specializing in continuous news, news Y, and a company of statistics and financial information, Infomax.
(Yonhap Feature) Personal mobility devices expanding fast but face hurdles :
http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/20 ... 00315.html

Starts:
SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- Kim Jin-seok, a 28-year-old office worker, wakes up at 5 a.m. every day to get to his company in northern Seoul on time.

It is not just because of nasty traffic jams or no convenient public transportation available near his home located on the outskirts of the capital. It is because he wants to get to work by riding an electric kick board he recently bought both for his commute and for fun.
Includes:
Kim is among the growing number of people, mostly young generations, eyeing so-called personal mobility whose popularity, along with related devices, seems to be going upward.

Personal mobility refers to mostly one-person moving devices ranging from electric kick boards to one-wheel scooters and electric bicycles.
8)

... and:
Especially in urban areas, such as Seoul, infamous for its chronic traffic congestion that can get worse in rush hours, such personal mobility devices are seen as a possible alternative to save time, reduce emissions and even make it waaay more enjoyable to commute.

According to a report by the Korea Transportation Institute, around 60,000 personal mobility devices were sold in 2016 here, and the sales are expected to increase over 20 percent on-year to some 75,000 this year. It projected that the sales will expand to over 200,000 by 2022.

Behind the explosive growth is the prices that have been cheap significantly, without compromising reliability and safety, which is another key aspect that people consider seriously before buying any of them.
Hehe... "reliability and safety"... Watt, like, how hard it is to pedal when the charge runs out?
