Anyway. This Dutch bike manufacturer from Heerenveen in the Netherlands (they say "All Koga bikes are built by hand at our premises in Heerenveen, The Netherlands") has been making bikes for a few decades and are owned by BIG bike manufacturer Accell Group now makes a "collection" of different ebikes:

... watt they are marketing as "Active relaxation"...

... and they have won lots of awards...:

Including two this past year... where half of this years wins were electrics. hehe...

Anyway... just thought their "Active relaxation" amusing. :)

TechCrunch is a leading technology media property, dedicated to obsessively profiling startups, reviewing new Internet products like ebikes, and breaking tech news.

Founded in June 2005, TechCrunch and its network of websites now reach over 12 million unique visitors and draw more than 37 million page views per month. The TechCrunch community includes more than 2 million friends and followers on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google and other social media.
A cyclist is using a Google Assistant-controlled electric bike wheel to ride cross country to CES:
https://techcrunch.com/2017/12/29/a-cyc ... lenavtrend

Starts:
There are bad ways to get to CES, and then there’s this — a 10-day, cross-country bike ride. It’s a week and change of 17-hour days spent peddling through zero-degree temperatures across the Midwest. Hell, it’s early January — even Las Vegas is near freezing this time of year.

This is one way to put your new electric bicycle wheel through its paces ahead of launch. But more importantly, it’s a pretty solid publicity stunt, funded by Google — a company that likes making a grand entrance. It’s all part of what’s shaping up to be a pretty big push for Google Assistant at the year’s biggest consumer electronics show.

Once an underground newspaper, Racer X Illustrated is now the largest and most influential publication in the motocross, ebike and off-road industry.
Where Are They Now: Stefy Bau:
http://racerxonline.com/2017/12/30/wher ... -stefy-bau

Starts:
Stefy Bau is one of the fastest women motocross racers in the world. Born and raised in Italy, Bau won three world championships, holds two WMX (USA) championships, and a title from the prestigious AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s. In addition, she has also won seven Italian Championships.
Includes:
Q: The development in electric bikes is very interesting and seems like part of the future when combined with the car and motorcycle technology. We are in early days right now with the technology, but where do you see that going?
A: It’s a new world for me on the electric bike side of things. I learned a lot very quickly, and for sure, it is the future. The motorcycle community is getting ready for this and we are also here in northern California and close to Tesla and Alta. But with the bicycle, it’s really fun. It allows people to ride for longer, and for people who are not in shape, it can help to get them active again. Pedal assist is a healthy opportunity for sure. I even started to see as a possible way for cross training for motocross, as it allows you to keep your heart rate consistent and build stamina. With an ebike you can control how much effort you put in, regardless of terrain. It’s amazing and I see that the future has a lot more electric in it. It is going to take some time for the motorcycle community, but it is coming for sure. From my position, people should really get out and try a pedal assist ebike. It really is amazing and not just something that is for older or retired people. What an ebike does, it lets you ride for longer, the power assist helps you when you need it or you can dial it back and just pedal away.

BUT... also, the article on the Cognito site starts:

In the last 6 months, my wife and I traveled to Europe and Asia on 2 separate occasions. I saw people riding bikes everywhere. That by itself is not surprising. What did surprise me however, was that almost every single bike I saw had an electric motor and battery pack on it.

Post Script... and By The Way... If that writer on the Cognito site wrote "almost every single bike I saw had an electric motor"? I'll suggest that it's adding an electric motor changes bike travel to travel as entertainment.

Delhi and Noida may not have completely solved their transport woes with e-rickshaws, but in Bengaluru the poor last mile connectivity could well be a thing of the past. Although the Traffic Police are vehemently opposing the plan (fearing added congestion), the transport department hopes to reach a consensus over the matter so that E-Rickshaws hit the city's roads in 2018.

I think they're a little confused. Arizona is shown as red, but based on the criteria in the color legend, it would be a yellow state. None of the things in the red legend apply to current AZ laws.

Market in Focus - UK Bicycle Market:
https://www.tutor2u.net/business/blog/m ... g-bicycles

Starts:

The UK bicycle market is one we have featured many times on our student revision workshops and here on the Business Blog. Here is an update on some interesting developments in the market. We've also provided some recent financial information on the leading UK bicycle manufacturer - Brompton - which might be useful for teachers and students wanting to practice some ratio analysis on a fascinating business.

INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW

Here are some key statistics on the size, growth and structure of the UK bicycle market:
Includes:
GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE OVERALL BICYCLE MARKET
Opportunities for market growth in the bicycle market are positively affected by factors like:
The rapidly growing electric ("e-bike") segment, which makes cycling more accessible to both commuters and older generations
... and:
THE GROWTH OF ELECTRIC BICYCLES ("E-BIKES")

One of the most significant growth opportunities for both manufacturers and retailers in the UK market is rising demand for electric bicycles ("e-bikes").

In countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Belgium and France where cycling has a high participation rate amongst the general public, consumers have long embraced e-bikes. For example, almost 30% of all new cycles sold in Holland are e-bikes

E-bike sales in the UK have so-far been relatively low. However they rose from 5% of the UK bike market in 2015 to 12% in 2016. Halfords dubbed 2017 the “year of the E-bike” after achieving 220% sales increase.

Much of the new product innovation and new product launches in the bicycle market is now focused on e-bikes.

"the “year of the E-bike”"??? Try the CENTURY of the "ebike"...

Hehe... Stark Drive (ebike manufacturer based in Stockholm) has a "blog" ("why our bikes are better than [insert here]")...

but their latest post ... amusing perhaps...

Australian / New Zealand / EU Backers and the controversial 250W Limit
https://starkdrive.bike/blog/australian ... 50w-limit/

Starts:
Hello Backers,

This post comes after our experience sending bikes to Australia but this has also effected several of our EU based backers specifically in Germany where they have some very stringent regulations on electric bikes and their motor power rating.

You see the EU has written regulations that govern the total power output of motors that are supplied on electric bikes opting to set this limitation at 250w which on the surface may seem like a reasonable power rating and more then enough for the average user as these bikes are strictly meant to 'assist' the rider in getting from a to b. The problem arises however that this limitation is ill conceived for several reasons...

Ends:
All Stark Drive bikes include inbuilt electronics that limit the total final speed when being assisted by the electric motor and/or when riding on pure electric power with the use of the Throttle.

Sincerely

Oscar
CEO, Stark Drive LLC.
Said "inbuilt electronics that limit"... of course can't be disabled by pulling that little wire thingee of course.

Hehe... 25% rebate in Sweden has popped up again...

Image

Sweden Puts Its Money On Small Electric Vehicles:
https://cleantechnica.com/2018/01/01/sw ... -vehicles/

Starts:
Elon Musk likes to start at the top and work down. In Sweden, when it comes to EV incentives, the government is starting at the bottom and working its way up. According to Norwegian news source Elbil, it is now offering a rebate equal to 25% of the purchase price of an electric bicycle, tricycle, or quadricycle. The Swedish rebate program will not apply to self-balancing devices like Segways or hoverboards, but the article in Elbil suggests the Renault Twizy may be eligible. In some cases, an electric wheelchair or hand-operated bicycle may qualify for the incentive. The total amount of money available is limited to 350 million krona annually — about $12 million.

... as picked up in ES Newz last September...:
https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewt ... 8#p1321838

CleanTechnica article includes:
Sales of electric bicycles and similar vehicles are exploding in Scandinavia. Last year, about 67,000 electric bicycles were sold in Sweden and another 36,000 were sold in Norway. “Research shows that electric bikes replace cars,” says Karolina Skog, Sweden’s Minister of Environment. “Now there is a good selection of bicycles in place and the market has begun to evolve.”

City of Aspen seeks proposals for mobility lab:
https://www.aspendailynews.com/news/cit ... 597f5.html

Starts:
The city of Aspen is seeking proposals for transportation services to be offered during the summer 2018 mobility lab.

The municipality issued an official request for proposals for on-demand, specialty fixed route and micro-transit services for the mobility lab, as well as bike share, bicycle leasing and bicycle purchase programs, on Dec. 19. Response from outside vendors who are interested in the potential contracts are due by Jan. 19 for the lab that is planned for June, July and August.
Ends:
The city is also interested in an electric bike-share program and a specialty bike-share program that could provide cargo bikes. Aspen officials, in addition, would like to offer the public the chance to lease a bike for the duration of the lab and to purchase the bike at a discounted rate once the lab is over.

Skadron said that one model could have a manufacturer supply the bikes or vehicles, with another partner actually operating the services.

Around 20 different entities have requested information on each mobility lab proposal, according to a list posted on the bidnetdirect.com website the city uses to notice the request for proposals.
