My first ebike kit

Hi to all the members this is my first post and first ebike kit

It is the xlyte 408 hub motor with

Motor Kit Details:
Engine Type: Internally geared, brushless rear wheel 300Watt-hub motor.
Removable Battery Pack: 36-Volt/9AH Light Weight Ni-Mh batteries
Controller: 20 Amp Immediate Start
Charger: 36-Volt/2-Amp, Fan Cooled Smart Charger
Charge Time: Up to 3-hours
Throttle: Twist-Grip variable speed
Max Speed: 30-35kmph/26" wheel
Cruising Speed: 28kmph
Max Range: 35km
Weight: 9kg additional to bike
Wheel Must be: 26 to 28-Inch, 36 spokes
Frame Must be: 21-Inch or larger

not to sure about the batteries would of prefered 48 v but this is a start I think the controller is only 36 v as well so may need to purchase a second controller at some stage

I am hoping to have this kit in the next few days so that I can test it out cant wait

I do however need some advise on how to fully weather proof this kit as I will be riding in all weather ( we can get up to 50mm rain /hr )but the obvious thing to do is silicon grease around all protrusions to motor controller etc

this is going to be fitted to a 26" 32mm wide rear rim already spoked

Would I get far greater power/torque etc from running 48v ( replacing controoler and ordering two lipo pacs 24v 12ah )
 
When you get it, post a pic of the components, especially the controller.
There's a good chance it will work with 48v, other than the low battery cutout will still be at 36v. That can be fixed too.

Waterproofing is tricky. Water tends to follow wires as a drip and gets into the spaces between multiple wires. No matter how well you seal things, water tends to get inside anyway, so a small drain / vent hole on the lowest part of an enclosure is always a good idea.

Routing the wires so they enter / exit on the low side of an enclosure helps immensely. Water does not usually run uphill.

The controller needs to have some cooling, so you can't completely enclose it or it might overheat. I would suggest mounting the controller so the wires come out of the lowest side, and try to seal the upper side, but leave it somewhat exposed for cooling. Any kind of structure above the mounting location that acts like an umbrella will be very helpful.

Road spray from the wheels is nasty too. Some kind of fender to keep the spray off the controller would be good.

I don't think the CLyte 408 is internally geared? You picked a great first kit though.

However it looks to me as though your seat is too low. Kinda the way if you walked a mile while crouched you'd think it's a pretty long walk, it's similar with a bike. Well, I could be mistaken but here's a calculator to help figure out a position that's close to optimal right off the bat. It yeilds three fits, the french fit being the most comfortable & generally used for things like touring. Nice thing is this is free.

You could also gain with slicks or semi-slicks instead of knobbies. Good ones will set you back about the price of a drainbrain, but I'd argue better tires would give you a better range boost.

'right off the bat' is right! The measurement process looks awfully involved, and very dangerous!

Bah, it's nothing evil, and I think it's worth the trouble because it yields pretty detailed results as well as descriptions of what they mean. I don't know of any other calculator that accounts for things like saddle setback and stem length, for example.

I've input an average of each measurement taken three times as it suggested, and this is what it gave me:
