I've been really inspired by www.electricbike.com (and endless-sphere) so I've condensed much of the knowledge I've acquired from countless hours spent reading posts here and countless dollars blown on my unending quest to build the ultimate electric fatbike.

The first post is about my experience with Doug's 100mm conversion kit here

https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/bbs02-fat-bike-conversion-kit/

There is also instructions to assist with BBS02 installations here

https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/bbs02-installation/

Different ways to mount the BBS02 onto different bikes here

https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/bbs02-fatbikes/

Chainring selection

https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/bbs02-chainrings/

Hotrodding the mosfets in your controller

https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/bbs02-controller-mods/

And dealing with the crappy ebrakes

https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/bbs02-ebrakes/

I hope people find the information useful. There will be many more articles in the future.

If you'd be willing to post any instructive articles (including those if applicable) to the ES Wiki, it would be appreciated.

Nice! I wished I'd seen this before I spend a lot of time trying to find information elsewhere.

Very nice indeed, thanks Karl!

The guy mentions replacing the stock tubes, for lighter weight tubes, to save weight...but then he says when you do that, he carries the stock tubes with him , just in case of flats. Thats not losing weight ..thats gaining weight.

While accelerating, a gram less of rotating inner tube is like 2 grams less of non-rotating inner tube. Weight reduction from tubes also helps with bunny-hopping.
If you figure he's going to need spares anyway, he's being smart about where the weight is distributed.

I was about to pull the trigger on the BBS02... then realized that you are left with a 44, 46, 48 and 52 teeth chainwheels... I cannot imagine myself pedaling up a steep trail when it takes all my pocket change on the 22T if I have no more battery LOL

There is also a 42 tooth from http://www.alcedoitalia.it/shop/accessori-bbs/corona-42-denti-per-bafang-centrale-bbs01/

After that, you can go with adapters for whatever chainring you want.

New article on the Biktrix Juggernaut, The most sucessful BBS02/Fatbike Kickstarter in the history of the universe...

Finished the dealer training for the Bosch mid drive system today and felt compelled to write this piece

Most talks about motor selection between geared/direct drive/middrive for a fatbike, but ended up with a lot of venting about the Bosch system as well.

https://electricfatbike.wordpress.com/direct-drive-geared-hub-or-mid-drive/

More than a little disheartened at the direction that Bosch has chosen to move in.

Possible Bafang chainring gearing option? Equivalent of a 28T/40T/50T chainring and it doesn't seem to be BB width dependent.

Another article on Dirt Cheap Walmart Donor Fatbikes

We recommend the Dolomite, but only for road-focused fatbike (not singletrack)

Em3ev is now offering the Fat Mac motor in 10T and 12T versions. Article and pics here.

Finally a good Geared Hub option for fatbikes!

Very interesting article about grinding down the DOLOMITE bottom bracket so it allows the stock BBS02 to fit in the cavity . Those mid drives can be bought for around $500 . That same company is making a modified BBS02 , for fatbikes, with longer crank to fit the stock 100 m.m bracket..but the prices is over $1000 .

I like the idea of saving 1/2 the money, and grinding down the bottom bracket . Please let us know when a article is posted on that procedure, and how successful it is.

Karl, nice article you made about my post

I plan on updating that page as I get more info about the FatMac so check back in the next couple of days as well.

Perfect timing, I just put in an order for two 12T Mac motors and 2 BBS02's last night and then I find out that the FatMAC that I've been anxiously waiting for the last 3 months for has finally been released.

Total post theft, I can deny my bad behavior. I gave you credit.

I sent you a PM....about modding the dolomite bottom bracket. Please keep me informed on that project. I sent you some ideas on the fastest most accurate way to shorten the dolomite bottom bracket. Once you have done this mod and installed the stock BBS02, you may want to get some really heavy duty steel hose clamps , large enough to fit around the bottom bracket , and tighten them down , if there is enough area left . At least one on each side . This may help strengthen the bottom bracket and keep it from becoming damaged due to the stress of the mid drive system and the shortening of the bracket itself . Ive had my bottom bracket apart to replace bearings in the dolomite, and the steel in that bottom bracket area, didnt look very thick .

Hahah it's ok for using my post, I've posted this on ES for people to know they have now one more option for their fat bike so using it in your article / site and spreading the news that is just great!

This could be a great ongoing thread , specifically about different but successful ways to mod fat bikes / dolomite to ebike.

I am currently in the process of modding my dolomite to electric . I ordered a rear 1000 watt direct drive hub motor but will take the cassette off and then mount
the hub on the front wheel of the dolomite since the fork distance is 135 mm . Im expecting to be able to make the dolomite a ebike for under $1000 .

Dolomite + mods - $300

ebike hub kit - $200

48 or 60 volt Lipo battery pack - 20 A/h--- $300- $400

Yes the Dolomite might be the perfect cheap donor bike. I'll be posting another build thread in the next week or two for our conversion.

Bikes direct bikes are very goos as well and much lighter. I just bought a deadeye monster single speed ($300 which is $100 off because it was banged up from shipping) that I weighed last night at 31 lbs! Brakes are crap but the drive train is steel and looks usable aluminum frame and the beefiest rear dropouts I've ever seen on an aluminum frame.
