Hey Guys,

Me and the guys have some crazy builds and want to time our pulls like a real drag race.
I need something portable that I can just locate on the floor of a parking lot, a device for the starting line and another one for the finish line and have it send timing data to my phone or laptop.

Is there such a thing?

That thing looks too much like a toy...
If I pull this out at a riders meeting I would not get street cred for that :)

I remember ten years ago a few amateurs driving their nitro rc cars on a dirt track and one guy was sitting with a laptop checking times on a chart...
I checked for systems with a transponder but they are super expensive and I don't know if they can measure drag times since they are designed for laps.

Aren't there smartphone apps that do this?

It needs to measure the start and also finish just like a drag race, no reaction time.

They use accelerometers, so should be able to record from the moment of first movement.

You could also use cards-in-the-spokes method and use the sound recording to derive speed and distance.

Dynolicious I-phone App $13
Haven't tried it perosnally but reviews read positive

So how will it measure the finish line cross?

1 click = one wheel revolution. 1/4 mile = X clicks. Count them using a sound editing program that displays a timeline.

Apply some calculus to get the rate of acceleration if that interests you.

Or, as lowrider13 suggests, use a smartphone app.
