that would be fantastic! throw some retractable magnets/coils in there and you have regen with variable air-gap control!

imagine: coreless axial flux motor + magnetic gearing + air bearings

These are used in extremely high RPM CNC machines used in micro machining. They run endmills that are measured in the microns in diameter at 300,000 RPM plus. The spindle is air driven and runs on air bearings.
