Very cool to see this running on a bike...

You beat me to it :(
Hopefully I will be able to get back to the shed later this week (Wife has been in hospital for an emergency operation).

Can't wait until you can suck more power from that motor.

I pulled two turns off the 18 turn iron/air core inductors and got a gain of 1 hp for a total of 3.6 did another video and I will post it later lol. I wonder what the limit of a 24 fet is? I got my bmx up to 6.5 hp with a hot motor and a 24 fet so I think over 7hp should be possible!

Just laid down 5.96 HP im actualy just about at the limit of my dyno and my full sized motorcycle dyno wont be done for a few months. I am not sure I needed any inductance at all for this motor 8) I only have three turns left on my inductors that were 18 turns and 27 uH to begin with.

I have a 24fet that I was using with the 80-100 Turnigy motor. At 10s, it would spike to 120 amps (100 amp current limit I think I had). At 20s, it would hit the hardware current limit and cut out. Motor has 130kv. Hope that info is of some use to you! :)

Yup you could solve that with some inductance and get the HP back with burties timing bord I just proved it tonight!

I did get a couple controller resets from twisting the throttle to fast so I will turn the current down a touch and get that to go away.

I found so much improvement with burties bord!!!! I went from 5.96 - 8.34 HP over night! I gained 20km higher top speed at 20 less amps!!!!! I know I can brake 10 hp with a 24 fet its not even getting warm right now!

I will say this if you want to even come close to the potential of this motor you need way more then 1 little tiny 24 mosfet controller....... This motor can probably handle 6 times the power the 24 fet can produce for 10 seconds and with liquid cooling at least 3 times what a 24 fet can do all day!!!!

Information for those who want to make their own inductors:
A CK740060 Mega-Flux toroidal core sells for 13 USD/ea at cwsbytemark. 7 turns around this 3" OD core gives you a 10uH inductor. The core material has an extremely soft saturation characteristic, such that at 250A it is down to about 7 uH of inductance, and 400A is around 5uH.

Edit: Vendor's catalog page.

I have been following this thread for quite some time now. It started with trying to organize a group buy, but nothing has been mentioned about that in quite some time. I understand all the testing and experimenting that has been going on with the prototypes as being essential to get the motor rite, and find a controller that will work with this beast of a motor. I was just wondering if we are ever going to see this motor available to buy or have those plans been put on the back burner?

I bought two of these motors a year ago and blew one controller on it right away then blew up 3 mega fets and had to put my R&D on the back burner till I bought a house! Now I blew up 3 more 24 fet controllers on it. Take it from me the motor is cheep the controller is not If you try to buy this early it becomes a conversation piece or a paper weight but nothing else! We are making progress and the builders/designers of this motor are on the right track but this is not their job its just a hobby for them. I hope they make it available soon but they are trying to make sure they have a controller ready to sell for it as well.
Its been a long long time but its worth the wait!!!! I am laying down more power while using less power then my X5!

You can multiply the torque by 5.43 for rear wheel torque!
Im actualy at the limits of this dyno so now I will get back on finishing the big dyno

Arlo1,

great work... is looking really good. You are getting up towards the torque levels we were getting. Should be heaps of fun on your little bike.

sorry if this is a little OT, but since these guys seem open to alternatives, does anyone think it's possible for them to make a 1/8 (or maybe 1/12) length stator, and then a 1kw motor ?

The guys did build a smaller version... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20292
Note sure if it is still available.

hope that helps

Yeh that's. 114 nm or 82 ft/lbs At the wheel and > 28.5nm or 20.52 ft/lbs plus losses of the chain and tire at the motor.

Ok so after repositioning the Halls and checking them we redid the heat soak test today.

140 degrees C on the motor
Just under 80 degrees on the controller
120amps on the phase wires (all now withing 5 amps of each other)

So that means around 15nM continuous from this motor. Note that is with ZERO cooling! no airflow nothing. We should be able to double that with cooling.

I wouldnt expect the controller to get to hot till there is a real load on it. What are you loading it down with?
