The mechanical engineer just brought by a prototype tonight. We decided to make a few changes. Realistically - it will be a month - but it will be worth it. It is looking like we will have a machined aluminum enclosure that is fully potted in epoxy with 10AWG silicone wire.... oh... so sweet!

If you have a deadline you can just tie a heat sink to the HVC Breaker I sell now, swap 3 wires, and use it for 30V - 120V 60A discharge. I just did a test with it the other day - hardly gets warm. I totally overkilled it with those 4110's

Hi Methods. I have 2 quick questions :

1- Does the system work with Regen?

2-I have a small 6s RC toy charger as a back up. Can I use a parallel board to parallel charge and balance?

Thanks!

Yes, every aspect of my system is 100% regen compliant

2-I have a small 6s RC toy charger as a back up. Can I use a parallel board to parallel charge and balance?

Not sure exactly what you are asking. If you are asking about hooking up a bunch of packs in parallel using a parallel board and then charging with an RC charger - yes - that would be fine. Few RC chargers run more than 2A through the balance wires and my board can handle more current than the JST-XH connectors (i.e. they will melt before my board will)

Thanks!

Hey everybody....

I am almost done with a new pictorial manual that should really illustrate how to hook this stuff up. I will be posting that up soon on my website, in a PDF, and I will also make a thread.

Man I am beat...

Here is a link to the Manual thread.
At this point it is nothing but a long string of 100 lightly commented pictures... but it should be enough to pull a few of you lurks off the fence who were looking for a little more info before jumping in.

Methods documentation thread

P.S. I forgot to mention that we are now shipping the new 6P version of the boards pictured in the manual.

Someone just pointed out that you guys cant read my mind. I tend to forget this.

So the LVC/HVC/Parallel boards are now 100% available in 4S, 5S, and 6S. We spent many nights spooling up production so there should not be any supply issues. The Parallel boards are also available in 4S, 5S, and 6S and well stocked. We are stocked up on HVC Breakers. The Retard cables are no longer needed and the new LVC Breaker module is still about 3 weeks out. We have Jumper cables in 4S, 5S, and 6S and those are available in 6" and 12".

The new boards have 33% fewer parts on them and they have the LVC Retard function built in to each one (though you only need to use one). They are not quite as sensitive as the old boards but unless you are running in -10C I don't think you will ever be able to tell the difference.

My turnaround time is still usually same day but I have been traveling more and more to my new hooch in the woods. The wife and I decided tonight that I need to move some of my stock to my Jeep... then when we are in the woods I can still pack boxes and get stuff out ASAP. Gives me an anxiety attack when I have orders in the queue and they just sit there

I am now including Balance Tap Jumpers with every kit for free. I have had a run of folks not ordering these cables that allow access to balancing.. and I want people to balance.. so I am just going to include them.

example: 18S kit would come with 3 x 6S 6" Jumpers (12" optional)

I will update the webpage

Bazaki is helping me do some testing on the HVC breaker right now. Our results will make the new LVC Breaker (and the next version of the HVC Breaker) more reliable.

Hi Methods, I have a question about charging a 24s pack at 12 s using 2 12s chargers. I would like to know if I can leave the data cables plugged in. look at the diagram :

Yes, absolutely
The data lines are totally 100% isolated.

You can also leave the packs wired in series at the power level as I have said many times.
Just install center power taps and hook those chargers right in parallel with the system.

If i use an Infineon controller from bikes.ca (C7240-NC), do i need to add the extra resistor on the throttle (like on the ones from Lyen)?

No. The onboard resistor is tuned for ebikes.ca controllers

FYI: My wife gave birth a few weeks early (back on Wednesday) and we have been trapped in hospital hell since then. They are still holding our child (don't get me started...) so I have not even looked at PM's, emails, etc. I have been contacting pending orders and payment made folks offering refunds. I have a few technical issues that we are working with some customers and those are on hold.

Anyway... my advice to anyone who is looking to give birth soon.... either do it at home or be very careful where you go and what you say. These Captain Safety clowns will hold your child hostage if he is even close to something that could possible be "Mild or Moderate" risk. No compromises, no reason.

We have had to deal with over 10 nurses, 4 lactation specialists, 2 pediatricians, and countless other random people. Each one assumes we are mentally retarded and know nothing of science, child rearing, etc. Not a single one is willing to take 1" of a step toward anything that could possibly have risk associated with it. Every single one of them is attempting to minimize risk *at any cost* with no concern for reason or logic.

Lowest common denominator type of thinking. Pass the buck, chickenshit, play it safe, grrrr...

:o I am a little frustrated at the moment

My kid is healthy and my wife is happy - so if I can just get them home we can get back to the Electric Revolution.

Congratulations! Thats cool. Good luck with getting the baby back. Sounds rough. Pretty sure a few days after I was born my padres went on a sailing trip with me tucked in some hammock underdeck. Obviously not a big deal; I (very unscientifically) theorize it's why I love claustrophobic spaces. Can't imagine you're planning on bungie jumping with the child.
New to endless-sphere? Notice a lot of signatures recommending Ebike.ca? That's because it's the best place for a quality and manageable, (but still 'real'), first build. Justin is a solid supporter of electric bike development, and a good source of equipment.

My hat off a thousand times to the green people that effectively run this forum. The ES Mods are superb.

That would be correct.

It is 1am and I am feverishly trying to finish testing two batches of HVC Breakers and Parallel boards so that I can meet my shipping commitments. Looks like it is going to happen. Then all I have to do is pack the car and head back out to my hooch in the woods. Thank you Monster drink for making this happen.

I have an field mod that I want folks to make on the HVC Breaker boards.
If you have an HVC breaker board please install a cap as shown below
Any cap rated at your system voltage will work - 100V 1uF Ceramic would be fine
100V 0.1uF would be fine too

I wrote it up here:
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=40436&p=607112#p607112

Image

Please pass this message along to anyone you know running the HVC Breaker module.

thanks,

Hi,

I have 18s 3p pack that I want to balance altogether.
If I configure the pack to 6s 9p can I parallel the 'LVC/HVC/Parallel Boards' with extensions to give a single 6s balance connector out?
Hope this makes sense.
thanks Eddie

Don't see why not. As long as you break the series connections. One issue though would be enough slots to parallel all 9 packs.

I have been totally busy doing nothing useful so Matthew took the initiative to build out our new prototypes... built up the boards, inspected and test, cleaned and potted, then tested again. Dude is a bad mo-fo! I dont know what he has been doing late at night but the quality and consistency of his surface mount and assembly work was flawless... beautiful. Sat there for 20 minutes trying to find a mistake and came up totally empty handed. He also has one of those killer dual element ultrasonic cleaners so the boards just come out so crisp...

So what you are seeing here is us playing with different epoxy heights.
Deciding on whether to bury the JST-XH-6 or leave it detachable
Deciding on what angle to put the board and which components to cover

After these we decided that it is best to completely cover the components (even though they look cool) to avoid any chance of moisture creeping past the glue to part interface. For the JST he is going to try packing them with dialectic grease to keep the epoxy out so that we can remove and replace connectors.

So far it is looking like these will be a drop in replacement for the HVC breakers and they will double as working for LVC_Breakers. All the new mods are done to these and they are being punished on secret ebikes around the bay area (testing club - like fight club).

These well tested prototypes (with varying differences) will be up on the website in a few days.

Since we love you guys we are going to offer a TRADE UP PROGRAM... so anyone who has purchased an HVC_Breaker can trade it in for full $50 discount on one of these new units. All you have to do is ship it back to us.... but you might want to keep both so don't act too fast.
