John,
Just placed an order for 80 x 13/14g silver spokes but there was some problem with the bpay so I sent a message through your online help. Just though I may mention it on here as well as I need to get my wheels repaired. I just get too many broken spokes when I use straigh 13g and have read a lot about how the wheel may be not flexing to absorb the bumps.

When in doubt, REV!! it out.

Alan,

Hit me up through my website, or check out the Ebike section for the details on sending parts my way.

dscline,https://sss-web.usps.com/cns/landing.do

I recommend 13/14 butted spokes for sure, or else regular 14ga spokes.

Fractal,

Glad you like them! Should be a blast to ride! How did the packaging hold up? Its a long way for 20 kilos of box!

Neil,

I mostly use 12ga and 13ga for moped rims. Have you thought about drilling your rims for a thicker spoke to work with your machine?

My 11/12 butted spokes will be 11ga at the head and 12ga at the thread.

A 17x 2.5 gazelle is just at 22" tall if I recall properly.

Hardcave,

You can send a payment for goods direct to paypal@holmeshobbies.com, or else place a new order and I will cancel the other. Please reference the order number in the payment.

I do not think I would need to drill the rim for bigger spokes, it would be more a case of drilling the hub to take the bigger spokes. Will have to wait for the 5405 to arrive. I think I had seen the review thread that said the holes in these hubs were bigger anyway.

But will not even order the spokes till I have both hub and rim in hand and I can make my own measurements. Need to see about offset too, before i can work out lengths needed. I have gone for a 150mm axle, and think it is going to ge mounted in a custom rear swing arm..so o idea yet if any offset it going to be needed yet. Depends on my torque clamp and swing arm setup

The 11/12 swaged spokes are here, and I am leaving the country for a week tonight  I'll try to get a product made while on the lamb, but it will probably have to wait until I get back.

I'll be back late next week, pardon my absence.

Both. Taking a Honeymoon with my wife and visiting a factory that supplies about 1/2 of my livelyhood, in Japan. Spoke orders are on hold, but all other orders are going out normally.

Hey John, when you get back from your honeymoon, I am looking at finally getting some spokes to lace up my hub with.

Could you give me spoke gauge/length recommendations for:

- Alex DX32 26" 36H wheel
- Crystalite HS3540 Hub

Thanks!

I don't have the measurements for the hs35 hubs here, I laced a few and totally forgot to record them.

Sorry for being hard to get ahold of lately, I still haven't caught up from my travels and there are still about 400 emails left to finish.

You can calculate spoke length your self by first measuring rim ERD and then using the hub details in the http://ebikes.ca/SpokeCalc.shtml (check measurements yourself of course).

To find ERD, use the tutorial here:
http://www.bikeschool.com/tools/spoke-length-calculator
(Click on 'Spoke Length Tutorial')

Cheers.

I just failed the stock 20" rim provided with an HS35. I knew it was going to go, but didn't expect it this soon (around 200 miles). I'd like to fix this just once, so I'd love to get your recommendation on rim and spokes to lace up in a radial pattern. 12ga are unfortunately necessary, as the holes in the flanges are HUGE. I'm not opposed to going moped/DOT, but I do need to keep the total diameter under 20".

Hi,

I have sent you 2 mails but still hasn't got any answer.
I received your spokes a couple weeks ago. They look really strong :D and they are pretty good quality but I received the wrong size :?

I ordered 141mm and just after I order, I notice the rim I was looking for was out of stock so I change for 137mm. You said it was ok and you have changed the order.
But I received too long spokes... Looks like they are 143mm or so.

Paul,

email your way. Apolgies for the latent response, I'm still really buried from my trip and things aren't getting much better by the day

7lions,

12ga spokes laced into a 16" moped rim would be my personal choice. You could get away with one cross like this.

JRH, can you define spoke length?

is it measured from thread end to center of butt end, as in:

I just hook them over a ruler, which is the way I have heard from all other bicycle mechanics. From the inside of the elbow on the head. This is also how the spokes come measured from Sapim. Hook them over a ruler and it is dead nuts what they are labeled. It doesn't make more than a mm difference, not enough to throw a build off unless the spokes are already way off.

Spokecalc probably measures from the center of the spoke head, but I've never noticed a difference enough to catch my attention.

Spoke rulers make measuring slightly faster, but will give a similar result to the way JRH describes:

Image

Spoke is measured from the inside of the bend, see another ruler here:

I see the zero starts at the bend of the spoke on those rulers too, so hooking it over a ruler seems acceptable.

My site calculates all the costs, please use it for me.

I have a stack of PMs here and have been slammed with work. Orders for spokes are going out as normal, but I don't have the time for helping on this forum at the moment. My apologies! Once I get caught back up on orders I will do my best to help out here again, but until then I won't be around much and I can't calculate spoke lengths for you. It just takes more time than I have right now. I suggest using the calculator on Ebike.ca 's website, it works extremely well.

Thanks for the interest, I'll try to be back around as soon as possible!

Jrh,

DUDE. I'm gonna lose it when it arrives at my door!!! I'm so beyond amped right now!!!! I just got my 18fet controller back from Lyen too! I'll have to mess around with the settings so I don't kill myself. That wheel build looks ridiculous!!! It's gonna put my 5404 with its cheap rim to shame!!!! The wheel should also fit nicely in my new swingarm(hopefully). All around EXTREMELY satisfied with the build and I don't even have it yet!!!! Thanks john! You are AWESOME.
