many mopeds still have pedals..
they serve almost no function, other than legality..
annd its a real pita if you do have to pedal it far haha

Yah that Specialized prototype was a crazy copy of the motoped design. It was a little disturbing when we came upon it.

Legally to be classified as a motorized bicycle in most states in the USA you need to have functional pedals. This allows you to legally ride on the road with around 49cc or 2hp. If you were to fit the bike with a low enough power electric motor you would then be classified as an electric bicycle (or a 1000w sticker  ) In California you could actually run pegs with a electric motor with 2hp and be in the moped class.

Since it is a motorized bicycle, most of the time you don't need insurance or to pay annual registration.

Are you sure about the 1000 watts and no pedals thing? If so I am going pedal-less on my next bike build! It would be awesome to do a trials style lightweight bike with a monster motor! (And the obligatory 10,000 erm I mean 1000 watt sticker  ) lol!

hahah yes whiplash i agree with the 10,000 eehhh i mean 1000w :D

great looking concept and bike - i wish i had the cash to build an electric one myself.

magudaman - any chance you have a weight of the completed bike minus the gas motor? or how much your electric prototype weighs? also if you have any video's/more information on the electric one im sure everyone here (including myself!) would be very interested!

i know i seem to post these motors pretty often, but it seems like not many people know about them and their potential - so here goes again:

https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewto ... 31&t=40859
https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewto ... 8&start=25

im not sure about the dimensions (mainly the width) of the motoped but it looks fairly wide - enough to accommodate a mini monster if not the hubmonster. here is another link/videos of john hitting just over 100mph with the hubmonster (and about a 400 lb total weight of bike/rider if im not mistaken).

https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewto ... 9&start=25

over 30kw or 40hp. as a hub motor it already has insane performance - imagine a mid drive [hub?]monster!

also, sorry to hear about specialized stealing your idea...its pretty clear that its your concept, the specialized seems poorly thought out in an attempt to not copy 100%

About $100k short and 31 hours to go. :(

I really hope these guys decide to move forward with production regardless.

Are they allowed to move forward if the goal is not met??

I suppose those prices are somewhat reasonable considering the cost of bikes like the Stealth Bomber. Are they still going to push out an electric version? If they can do it for under $5k similar to pircyatecycles1.com I'm sure they'd steal a lot of potential Stealth sales.

motoped only makes the frame sets, not the motor or engine etc..

the electric conversions are by magudaman/justin..

unfortunately i think it would be somewhat difficult to build an electric version for under $5K..
if you want it to go very far or fast that is..

I am thrilled with this idea.

I have to say it sure is expensive for a simple backbone frame.

don't forget about the jackshaft and cranks/pedals..
that's what differentiates the motoped frame set imho...

Motoped has changed their name to Motopeds and will be headed back to kickstarter..
the frame only price will be coming down to ~$600 if funded..
complete (gas) bikes ~$1.5k..
electric specific model still in development..

FASTEST eBike on the planet!!!

15,000 KW Brushless motor- Mountain bike that does 88 mph (140.8 km/h) in a blink of the eye! We call it the "' Flux Capacitor ""

Motopeds is looking forward to a fun project that provides significant due diligence, investigation and discovery with multiple battery technology companies. Some of these batteries and their technologies are so powerful, you could use the power storage device in your cellphone to jumpstart your car battery.

They have developed extreme miniaturization of the conventional elements of traditional batteries, the anode and the cathode.

Assembling these in a 3D microstructure, one company has developed a new way to integrate the two components at the microscale to make a complete battery with superior performance. The batteries have a much longer life span and charges 1,000 times faster!

its great to see some more photos of the new electric motoped! i agree with skyungjae - if its under $2k its not even a question. haha i have a feeling thats not the case though... probably closer to 5-6k. im curious as to the motor/controller/batteries. also the frame (on the elctric one) has a bit too much going on/looks a bit hectic/like they werent quite sure what they were doing. hopefully they come up with a more simplified and cleaner looking final product - and one that is available soon!

other than that, 88mph is quite an achievement that only a few people have accomplished. can't wait to hear more info as far as specs go!
