i noticed the back side of nord-lock also has zigzag shaped patten...can this mean it works on either sides??

I was at a stoplight.. Hit throttle after installing these.. One axle comes out of 1/4" steel dropout. He disc rotor and zip ties saved the phase wires.

Ah. A stripped nut. It appears when I cut the axle down I ruined the threads. I have a repair die on order... Fml.

mmm..

funny that you mention that, i was removing my wheel tonight and was surprised to find the nut on one side completely loose. The other one was still thight

i remember tightening both of them pretty hard, about 2 weeks ago, but i guess it was not enough. Better check those on a regular basis, even if they are the best system around.

Correct.

My axle is 12 though , not sure if this is a problem, I'll keep an eye on them and post some feedback later.

Tightening torque on these is supposed to be around 135 n-m.. Which is about how much torque my motor makes. I'll upload a pic soon of what happened. But the motor axle actually spun out and widened the the frame another 2 cm

Makes for a scary maiden ride...

NordLock washers are for keeping the nut tight, not for taking the motor torque. Some motor torque reaction is carried by friction from axle to frame due to the tight nut, and the rest must be carried by the torque plate/torque arm.

NordLocks are NOT a replacement for torque arms, plates or clamping dropouts.

Were you using these without a torque arm? What made you think these could replace a torque arm/plate?

The second or third post even says that explicitly.

Did you lubricate them (eg with WD40 etc.) when you put them on? I have found they really need good lubrication to work properly. When I have used them without lube, they have slipped quickly, but with a good lubing they are tighter than a nun's nasty.

I havent yet seen a need for torque arms, and someone convinced me that I didn't need them with my 1/4" steel...maybe I should fashion one for the drive side. Also could be that the special washer with the tooth was not facing the correct direction and so it slipped out instead of catching the frame  Didn't have problem with lower quality lock washers, but I bet these are better. I'll give it another try. I used some Phil grease on the cams, and a tad on the other side.

nop. but thanks for the tip, i'll do it right now. Although lubricate might not be the right term for WD40. I'm not sure oil/grease would have the same effect than WD40 on Nord-lock efficiency.

K. I'll use wd 40. On closer inspection, my dropout slot widened a whole 2mm! Wow ! Tmorrow will be water jetting a torque arm?. Dunno how I will bend the steel back!

Yes you are right, lubricate suggests grease, and I wouldn't use grease. WD40 though seems to get them to lock against each other better. Works for me anyway.

I milled out my 14mm nord locks cause I didn't want to wait for 16mm ones. They are at 16.01mm and the milling didn't remove any of the locking portion... :)

Gratis bump. I'm the happy purchaser of 2 sets of 2 pairs many months ago.

Every time I show my bike to a knowledgeable mechanic I get an impressed wow reaction if they loosen / tighten the axle bolts over the Nord-locks with a torque wrench. Even so, they tend to dismiss the thought of acquring any due to cost. Those who sell service imagine they'll sit forever on unsaleable inventory.

It amazes me how many people can't grasp the logic of "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" for axle mounting reliability on a 2 to 3 kilowatt rear motor with regen.

if these work with an hs3540 axle ( I believe 10mm) I'll take 2 sets enough for 2 motors. Pm your PayPal.

Not trying to advertise or anything, but the stromer ebikes we got at the ebike shop I work at have nord locks on the axle, and they work absolutely beautifully for the first half dozen times, but after that it's time to buy a new set. Well worth it in my opinion.
The race bike:
24s5p 50c nano tech
Badass custom mofo outrunner 205x177mm 26kv
Peak power in : 318A at 91v
Peak power out: 24 Hp and 151ft/lb

Build to last...

Glad I got 10 pairs. LOL. I had a feeling this would happen because the washer I got feels weak and soft compared to doc bass hard steel torque arm.
