Hi Doc,

Any ideas how to attach these TAs to a front fork in a 2WD setup? BTW, there is no room on the insides of the dropouts.
If you know a good way, I would be jumping to get 2 of them from you.

Thanks!

Hello,

I see the space you have between the lower part of the tube of the fork and the dropout hole.
It seem to have around 1cm distance wich seem to be of to hold great torque of the axel.

I would suggest to gring the torque arm a bit to allot the lower part of the tube. so you could put them outside .

So with one on each side it should be ok.

Use the DP420 epoxy and the procedure i suggested in the thread and that will do the job

What tool would you use to grind the torque?

And how can you buy DP420 in the UK?

Hey doc or anyone else with advice Got your torque arms, with my setup I have do put TA' s on inside of dropouts. Swing arm is aluminum 135 mm. To add both arms inside I need to widen to 155 mm. Last night I used a car jack and widened to 170 mm, I'm leaving it with the jack till I get back home tonight, hopefully it will widen a bit to make install easier, I'd like to put TA with hub motor on to assure correct alignment.
My question is has anyone done this on aluminum, and how bad this is on the welds? I only went as far as I could with just my fingers (not pushing it much)

I did the exact same thing with the car jack for my mongoose and giant.

To protect the weld from craking, i just protected the swing arm from bendind from the weld and reported the bending few cm after by holding the swing arm width the same with a metal quick grip tool so by this way, the weld dont force and it's more the arm that force and bend few cm further.

. believe me.. in french it would be easyer to explain...

yeah. that's a great thing

Dont forget that the work time is 10 minuite with the 410 and 20 minute for the 420.

ALSO.. remember: Work time IS NOT CURING TIME.. curing time at ambient is like 1-2 day and at 100 celsius it's 1h and at 60 celsius it's 2h

I didn't find the search term "paint" anywhere in this thread, and I had a thought: If you epoxied these plates to a painted dropout, wouldn't the weak point be the bond between the paint and the frame? Would you recommend sanding off the paint around the dropout before epoxying?

I don't suppose this would be a problem with anodized frames?

I strongly recommand sanding or grinding until you reach the pure metal.

If you bond on the paint, yes it will be only the force that attach the paint to the metal.. not so good!

you need a rough surface... anodization is not rough.. i recommand grinding until you reach the aluminum.

So I installed docs TA's last night used dp420 followed docs instructions from this thread, everything worked out great motor axle fits beautifully!
I fu$&ed one thing up though on derailleur side here's a picture

torque arm.jpg
torque arm.jpg (23.96 KiB) Viewed 276 times

Pic is taken close up its about 3mm off... I placed with hub motor on thought I had it in place, couldn't see it though damn :? (TA's inside dropouts)
Like I said alignment is perfect, what do you guys think I should do about this, should I even worry, since most of the axle movement is from side to side. I'll also be using nor lock washers. these are aluminum dropouts...
Would you recommend putting dp420 in gap?
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hello Fred,

I see the translation you have in your alingment. no need to fill the gap with epoxy. your axel will sit ok your aluminum dropout and it's on. The torque arm will take the side to side torque no prob  .

The far the axel is from thecenter, the more the torque arm will receive force ( lever effect), but these are so strong that you could have had 10mm off and they would have take the load no prob 8)

I made them overkill to be able to compensate for these kind of error

enjoy your new build!

Hi Doc, and any other readers.
I have a Shimano Derailleur with a hanger bolt like this:
shimano_b1a020fa8e1b5bda7ad9912fcb72854f.jpg
shimano_b1a020fa8e1b5bda7ad9912fcb72854f.jpg (5.93 KiB) Viewed 624 times

It's not long enough to go through the torque plate and frame. Here is a pic of where i want to put the torque plate:
torque_bike.jpg
torque_bike.jpg (140.91 KiB) Viewed 624 times

Basically I think I need a longer bolt, but it's a strange Shimano bolt as you can see, with a thicker section near the head.
Just wondered if anyone had any ideas what to do here?

Ok, another plan would be to use one of the smaller bolt holes in the frame that are for the rear pannier. As per this pic:
pannier_hole.JPG
pannier_hole.JPG (96.92 KiB) Viewed 613 times

Unfortunately the diameter of these holes is only about 5mm, not 10mm. But I could use a smaller bolt and maybe some sort of sleeve inside the torque plate hole?
Also the torque plate doesn't quite fully overlap with the pannier hole :-(
Grateful for any opinions.

Maybe it's possible for that kind of interference to just grind the area in conflict?

I got a pair! Great piece.

Wish it would of fit, but the axle was too short.
So now I need to build a swing arm around the plates.

I didn't think Aluminum was as bad as it turned out to be.
I put 1k plus miles with a Cute 128 and 6" disc, I just had to have more!
Mac 8t on 15s LiPo 60 amp 12fet controller, with a 8" disc. Didn't last long. About a block. At least it was a short walk home.
