I was examining the shipped motor and its phase wiring. The phase wiring at first glance doesn't appear to be 11gauge wiring. I checked Max's email from September 2011 and found this quote "Motors (all motors 420$) all will have 11G phase wires and will have ss411A for hall effects , SKF or NSK bearings and Disc brake mount."

How can I tell that these modifications have been performed?

I dont understand how the resitance is changing so drasticly with the frequency?

It's not the resistance thats changing, its the reactive components that are changing the impedance. The 120Hz measurement is closer to a static number you would get if you connect a meter to the phases, and set it to ohms. It's simply the resistance of the wire, which should be very low. As the frequency increases, things like capacitive reactance start to take over and skew the impedance measurement.

If you take the windings out of the motor and lay them out straight, you would basically have a wire with <1Ohm of resistance. However, at frequencies the motors operate at, they can act much differently than a simple static resistor, largely due to how the windings are oriented on the stator.

Look up "frequency vs resistance" for a bit more info. I don't have a ton of experience with this stuff, so I might not be explaining it perfectly.

Oh.. btw.. i forgot to mention that the inductance i posted for the 5403 was took during the rotor was removed... so the inductance might be higher. i will double check that.

Inductance will be lower when the magnet ring is around the stator. I have mesured inductance on a few motors and its usaly 25-50% lower when the magnets are around the stator compared to having the stator removed.

Ok, i thought it would increase because when i was playing with car audio stuff and building hi-fi crossover, when the inductor had air core the inductance was lower than the same one with iron core... but on a motor i guess it's different...

Is anyone running one of these 540x's on a bike yet?

I would have expected some sort of snazzy videos by now. I'm waiting on my swingarm before the bike is up and running. Even then, I will only be able to run it at about 9kW for now.

Me too. Max said something about some personal problems but hasn't elaborated and hasn't responded to email for the past 4 days. I'm getting concerned because I'm moving soon. I'm afraid I'll have to ship my bike before the motor even arrives. Pretty bummed.

Anyone have any other details? How's our boy Max doing? Can someone close by swing by and give him a hand with things?

Did you get a tracking number? I heard that mine was supposed to ship a couple times. But no tracking number.

Someone should swing by and make sure he's alright and hasn't been buried alive in Chinese packing material.

I just got my tracking number from Max tonight. Unfortunetly, the tracking number was too late. USPS claims they attempted to deliver it but no one was home. They also claim they left a note saying they attempted delivery. There is no note. I've been home all day, with another person. Ive had this problem with my driver before. I had to call and file another complaint and have it scheduled for pickup. I don't trust them that they will attempt to actually get out of the truck and walk to my door.
