This is a GREAT idea! :D

Wish I had your courage methods, but I've been warned away from shipping batteries as a business with out a huge amount of liability insurance, so I'm glad you are able to do this!
Thank you Justin_Le for your selfless act of kindness! We all are in your debt.

My latest build: Vision R40 with Golden Motor "800W" Trike motor as mid-drive, NuVinci N171B rear wheel as transmission, 30 MPH on 12S (46V) 12 AH Turnigy Nanotech LiPo (25-50c) able to climb tall hills on a single Amp Hour!

Hi Methods,
I'm interested in 4 -6S packs to make 12S2P battery pack for my ebike project. I've already had a bad experience once with hobbyking. It would be nice to the the guarantee of working packs delivered to me :D

thanks.

I like the Idea....but batteries are a pain for shipping for non-locals.

but how about making a lightweight battery holder with the the electrics enclosed and pigeon holes for the batteries
(like those funny old square holders that took 4 AA and had a nine volt battery terminal on the top.)

Then people could source batteries and you don't have liability.

Love the movie and that quote, one of the finest!

At first, I thought this service would not fly, but the more I think about it, the more I realize not everyone wants to deal with HK and the waiting etc.

I hope you are able to get a bulk deal from HobbyKing for the Turnigy packs.

Everything on the Methtec website but batteries. I just ordered a frame bag from Canada, and would rather give my money to Methy than HK. Is there a supply yet?

I think methods has not made an answer on this yet, but I would guess there's no chance he'd be supplying HK LiPo. To make it worth something he's have to test them all, and his time would add up, and then the costs of the LiPo would be much higher than HK. And liabilities dramatically increase when supplying lipo.

Eitherway, your money would be going to HK or maybe HK and Methods, because for LiPo I don't know of any other good and affordable source.

This would change if methods ever gets into supplying some of the cooler chemistries. Still, doesnt seem up his alley of interests.

(>.< let me continue to reply on behalf of methods. Sorry, he can speak for himself (and matt I guess) and eventually will.)
New to endless-sphere? Notice a lot of signatures recommending Ebike.ca? That's because it's the best place for a quality and manageable, (but still 'real'), first build. Justin is a solid supporter of electric bike development, and a good source of equipment.

My hat off a thousand times to the green people that effectively run this forum. The ES Mods are superb.

There is only one cooler chemistry ATM. And thats only because its safer and more energy dense but not as power dense!
Thanks Justin of http://www.ebikes.ca/
Also a thanks to Methy at http://www.methtek.com/ :)

If you are thinking of the Li(NiMnCoO2) chemistry, it's power density isn't too far off A123s, maybe 7% less? But definitely less than HK LiPo, yes. Plenty enough for e-bikes, that's for sure.

I've been using the Turnigy 40C LiPo in my battery packs and they deliver remarkably high amps with little sag. They don't have the gravimetric energy density of the 20C LiPo (about 160 Wh/kg) but I think they do pretty well (140 Wh/kg).
Voltron the Electric RG250 - Dual Agnis, Kelly 1200A controller, 6 kWh of A123 cells from Cell_Man and a shitty old chassis from 1985 :| Top speed 180 km/h, max current 600 A @ 100 V.

A while back I started putting together custom packs for a few local guys and some from ES but I haven't had much time lately to work in that realm.
We may still offer some kind of battery support in the future but right now we are both strapped for time.
I do have some battery packs built up out of some emoli cells by some crazy old guy  that I may put up for sale after I have fully tested them.
They are something like 10S5P packs made from single cells.... figure around 10Ah.

Hey Methods, are you still doing this? I'm very interested, not quite sure if I want to tackle building my own lipo pack or not. If you don't still do this, I think I'd at least like to get your battery protection kit.
I live in Canada, but very close to the US border and have a US mailing address that I use all the time.

Thanks

ps, I'd pm, or email you, but couldn't find that anywhere.

Could we do this for the 10S packs? Those 5 Amp (5000MA) seem like a cool size/weight......

We completely dumped this idea and instead we are going to offer a full kit that people can use to build up their own pack. Our kit will have the balance tap parallel boards (or LVC/HVC protection boards), buss-bars for paralleling the high power, etc.

Going to be a while tho as everything around here moves as slow as snot while I am trying to build my hooch in the woods.

Good call man. It's just too hard to assure n00bs won't do something to blow themselves up, despite your best efforts. A kit ensures at least the most basic understand of what's going on.

My email is at the bottom middle of the fist page

Email : MethodsTechnology@gmail.com

As far as signing up... yea I turned it off due to too many complications. In my laundry list of things that need to get done is a new website.

FYI: For those looking for a turn key solution the best we are doing is selling the parallel boards (or parallel detector boards) along with the equipment to parallel up the Hobby King bullets. That way all you really have to do is order your cells, order our kit, and tape it / plug it all together. That is pretty darn easy....
