I received my cells quickly after ordering- I got 17 packs. (51 individual cells) - I am only starting my build, but I am happy! They are genuine cells. A bit messy as expected, since they are already in packs and I had to break them apart, but they look like they will work great!

UPDATE,

Now have 100 more packs to sell. These have been cycled 2-3 times to ensure they meet capacity and that you will receive no funky cells. At the moment shipping ground only and free to the US.

For more info read the first post of the thread.

Received my 20 packs today well packaged as pictured earlier in this post. Like others I will have to tear them apart as the 9A discharge they are set up for is less than half what I need from them and I don't want to carry twice the batts required around with me all the time. Still this is exactly as expected and as advertised.
Just pretend that everything is OK maybe no one will notice.

Some examples of what you can do with these packs....

5S2P Booster Pack will cost you ~ 65$ shipped plus a balance connector and some andersons and an enclosure. This is a great way to get some more top speed for a certain distance. Pack built with spare cells I had laying around so they were not the cleanest in the exterior but then again they deliver a lot of amps and still deliver the new capacity.

BTW if you cut tabs connecting them but still leave a small part spot welded to it you can solder directly into it. It is quite easy I might add. Just be sure not to leave the iron touching the cell too much time as you might damage it..

Re: FS: A123 ANR26650M1A cells NEW PRICE 6$ cell shipped

Postby TonyReynolds » Mon Mar 19, 2012 4:12 pm

I would like to order some of these for my eBike lighting, which is currently slated to be a single 25W 12VDC H3 halogen driving light.

I figure if I run 4S3P (12 cells), that will get me 13.2 nominal with 6.9 Ah, about 91 Wh. At 80% DOD, that would get me about 2.9 hours of runtime for the headlamp.

A couple things have me stuck, as I'm I'm not a EE and I don't play one on TV:

1. What would I need for a charger and,
2. Would I need a BMS if I'm just running lighting, which is a steady current draw?

I could also do 16S1P (just 4 more cells) with a step-down dc-to-dc convertor to 12-14VDC, but I don't know whether that would get me any more runtime for the light, but it *would* give me extra Ah's as a "reserve" for my 52V 16S5P tringle battery if I used Andersons. I could simply unplug my main pack if I were to hit LVC on a ride and get a little more distance...

Thoughts?

Get a power strip and plug in four VoltPhreaks single cell chargers, skipping a socket in between for cooling. Make up a little connector for all four and you have a quickie balance charger - no BMS required, nothing needs to be disconnected. However, at only 2A charge current, your 3p pack will take about 3 hours to charge.

Importantly, even though it looks like there are common (+),(-) wires going to the same terminals in your pack from adjacent chargers, you really need to run separate wires right up to the cell terminals so each charger will not see voltages related to charging going on for its neighbors i.e. 8 pin connector, not 5.
