3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive DP420 DuoPak, 1.25 fl oz BLACK

Postby cwah » Wed Jul 04, 2012 6:55 pm

Hello there,

I purchased 4 tube of DP420 from this seller:
http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/9835tanzy/&_t ... 1439.l2754

When I purchased 4 of them, the shipping cost was lower.

Here's the tube, completely new and not opened:
Image

So anyone wants a tube in Europe can contact me, I sell it at 17£ (no profit for me). Shipping cost to be defined by the buyer.

Hey ya Guys- Merry Xmas. Looks like it's time to re-vamp this thread. I'm looking for some DP420 as well. I'm located in AUS though and haven't found a good supplier yet.

Checked: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/9835tanzy/&_t ... 1439.l2754 and found: "DP460". But no "DP420" like what was said.

Does anyone know where I can buy this Product in the great land of Down Under? Online would be best of course. I've been checking Ebay and using the great Google. But still no avail of a good place to buy it.

Any help or info would be be very much appreciated. Thanks again Guys!

In the same boat mate, was looking for it last night.

Thought about giving them a ring, but I assume there closed 'till next year.

Maybe I have to get the welder out :(

Thought that link looked familiar. I actually contacted those guys a while ago. Just dug up the email. I'll post it here because it has info about the minimum order acceptable and contact info that some may find useful if they decide to order from them. I don't think the Ellsworth guys will mind:

"Your quote request has been forwarded from Ellsworth Australia for follow up.
I have attached the website link below for the 3M DP420.
You will have access to the TDS/MSDS and applicable applicator/mix nozzle advise as well.
3M DP420 BLACK 1.25 OZ DUO-PAK :

You may purchase directly from the link via credit card.
A $50.00 order minimum is required.
Thank you for choosing Ellsworth Adhesives!

Looks to be a Chinese based company even though it's an AU website. Worth giving them a shot if no one else can just sell Singles. I guess a group buy unless you want 2-3 of them to cover the $50 Minimum!

DP190 50ml $36.04 each - MOQ 12 - Lead time approx. 3-5 days
DP190 200ml $92.84 each - MOQ 12 - Lead time approx. 6-12 weeks

DP460 37ml $26.66 each - MOQ 12 - Lead time approx. 2-4 weeks
DP460 400ml $212.73 each - MOQ 6 - Lead time approx. 2-4 weeks

Minimum order quantity a killer though.

I think I'm going to go with the 3M DP420 BLACK. The stuff Dr. Bass has been using and testing. I don't really want to mess around with the White or a Sub Kind. Dr. Bass knows his stuff and I'm in the dark about all the Epoxy Pros and Cons. I'm just going to take his word for it and get the real stuff. I guess I'll just have to get a couple from Ellsworth and do the $50 Minimum.

Did you say you were going to a big order and become a reseller t3sla? If you end up getting the DP420. Count me in.

Otherwise.. If I do an order from Ellsworth and have a couple extra tubes. Who's interested to buy my extras? I'm in SW WA AUS. At cost to me plus shipping.

DP460 is the same as the 420 except that it have 60 minutes curing time instead of 20 like the 420

The 460 is also recommanded for excellent magnet bonding for motor. and it's same strengh as the 420 for aluminum or steel.

That's good info to know. The other thing a lot of us would be curious about is: "How does the DP420/DP460 OFF WHITE Hold Up or Compare to the BLACK?? I've been having a hard time sourcing it Down Under.

I see the DP420/DP460 OFF WHITE on Ebay quite frequently. Would be much easier to source. What's your Review Doc? Is it any good? Or don't bother.. I really need to get one of the two so I can go ahead and buy some of your Famous TAs! And say good-bye to my ghetto hacked together ones forever!

The off white is about 90% strengh of the black in overall specs but for aluminum at ambiant it is the same strengh of overlap shear wich is 4600 psi for both

That's what I thought. The BLACK is stronger. I didn't know by how much though. Thanks for that info Doc!

For all the AUSTRALIANs looking for DP420 BLACK - I finally found a source on Ebay that will send from the USA for a pretty good price. You have to email him and ask for it though.
His Name on Ebay is: 9835tanzy -
It cost me $22.00 + $5.00 Shipping AUD.
I'll let ya guys know how long it took to get here. Supposedly you don't get Ebay Buyers Protection if ya buy from him and have to take the risks of it getting lost while shipping. Don't know why. Restricted Product?

Finally got the DP420 in the mail a couple days ago from that Ebay Seller in America that I mentioned a couple posts above.
Got to test it out last night on a Broken 6 Gear Freewheel (from Papamotor of course.. lol) that came apart. Saw Doc glue a Freewheel back together with DP420 and thought I'd give that a go first to test it out, until my Ultimate Torque Arms from him come in the mail. Great stuff so far! Seems Superior to the Super Steel and the JB Weld I was using before. Which both were not metal like or weld like BTW. No where near the strength of DP420. 8)
Also glued two Pedels back onto some Crank Arms that had their threads striped. Never getting those off again! But gives the broken crank arms a second life and figured if I really wanted to get them back apart I could just stick them in the oven cause they're small enough.
Well. Those are my first adventures and uses with the legendary DP420. Thanks again Doc for introducing me to an Epoxy that actually works like a WELD!! Pretty happy about that.
Cost $27 AUD and took 2 weeks to get here to AUS. Hope that info helps others looking to source this rare stuff Down Under. Took me ages and a couple of emails before I could source some one who would sent it out this way.

Keep us informed t3sla if you ever decide to become a reseller here in AUS.

Doctorbass or anyone;

I am thinking of getting some dp420, my question is, Dr bass on one of the dp420 utube video, you use just the plunger and not the whole gun. Does this work out?, there is a $50 difference between plunger and the mixing gun. I know you have to manual mix with just the plunger, seems like old times with other expoxy. thanks in advance....Jerry

The gun is for lazy persons  .. or "semi industrial" use

Just the plunger and it work well, it might hurt your habd a little bit due to the pressure on small surface that the end of the plunger will have on your hand but it worth for saving 50$

You might have to make a bit bigger epoxy batch for mixing to ensur ethe two components have the right ratio sinc ethe plunger will only be guided by your hand and not the guide rail that the gun have.

be careful. if your homemade plunger doesn't fit properly, the plastic pieces can spin around within the barrels. you can end up with quite a mess and waste
