Huge lot of electrical connectors

Postby Jay64 » Sat Aug 04, 2012 6:27 pm

I have come upon a large lot of electrical connectors. They were originally purchased for making wiring harnesses on motorcycles. Right now I'm gauging interest to see if anyone would like to buy them in either bulk or if you would rather be able to buy smaller quantities. Some of the rolls have thousands on them, and the bags are 100+ packs. I'm still going through all of it, I still have a lot that I haven't even gotten to yet. Apparently the lot was originally bought for about $20,000. I'm currently going through all of it and taking pics. A couple of the bags have been opened and a couple of the connectors have been taken out, so on the open bags, I'm going through and counting how many are still there. I'm still even trying to find what the prices are for this stuff. I will be posting pics as I get them and if I get a final way I decide to sell them I will post that as well. For right now, if you see something you like, contact me and make an offer.

I tried to google up some info on the parts to get sizes, ratings, etc., and found a few hits, but no detail. Sumitomo apparently makes the pins on the second reel pictured, but their site does not have details of any of their products, just general categories with descriptions. :(

Can you put up some pics of the parts with something to scale them by? It would help determine their actual size and possible capabilities, for those wishing to buy some.

Yeah, I was having a lot of problems finding details on most, and some I can't find any info. I can go and do that too. I was trying to be very methodical with my pics, taking a close up of the label, then a full shot of the container, then a close up of the part so that I could have them in order for posting. But apparently my phone doesn't store pics in the order they were taken, so they are all jumbled up. Making the picture categorizing a lot more difficult. I have to go through my pics out in the garage to organize them together, I will take pics with a size comparo. But I can tell you that these are going to be for 12v systems. Probably would be good for making wiring harnesses for your 12v auxiliary system of lights/horn/etc.

Jay,

They look like standard Sumitomo connectors, as used on a lot of Japanese vehicles. Here are some links you may find useful:

Catalogue for the HW series sealed connectors: http://swsct.sws.co.jp/components/series/pdf/hws.pdf (the white housings with the HW09 designation)

The unsealed HM series (now discontinued): http://swsct.sws.co.jp/components/series/pdf/hm.pdf (the green housings with the HM09 designation)

or it's possible that you have the older sealed HM series like this: http://swsct.sws.co.jp/components/series/pdf/hms.pdf

Here's a link to the base Sumitomo automotive connector web site: http://swsct.sws.co.jp/components/en/index.asp

Finding the right crimp tool will be the next challenge - let's hope it's fairly standard and not one of the really expensive ones.

I'm pretty sure these will find a ready home amongst folk here if you want to batch them up into packs!

Thanks Jeremy, I'll look through those links. I'll see if the guy I got them from also has the crimp tool. I think these are the sealed ones. I have 3 bags of the seals with 2,000 in each bag.

I think you may have a mix of sealed and unsealed.

The first picture shows a reel of unsealed HM series female terminals, for 0.5mm² to 1.25mm² wire, part number F(8240-4422).

The fourth photo shows some seals that are similar to those for the HW series sealed connectors, but may be a special, rather than a standard part, as the numbers don't quite tally. These look to be for the MT series sealed connectors, from the part number.

The fifth picture show the male terminals, part number M(8230-4282) that mate with the female ones in the first photo, and fit the unsealed HM series housings.

The first and second pictures in the next post shows HM series unsealed housings, 6090-1136, that go with the terminals mentioned above.

The third and fourth photos in the second post show sealed HW series connectors (I think) but I can't identify them, may be specials.

The fifth and sixth photos in the second post shows what looks like an HM sealed housing, but again the part numbers don't quite tally.

That's what I was thinking. It would be good to keep everything more pro looking and clean up some of the wiring harnesses. I just don't know if it will be worth me taking the time to make hundreds of individual packages. I'm kind of thinking it will be worth it to sell them in a lot and not make as much money as compared to trying to sell individual packages. But I am also thinking of making each up into packages of about 10 and trying to sell them that way. I'm going to have to devise a VERY good organization system if I try that though.

Jeremy, yes, I believe you are correct. After looking through things closer, I am starting to learn more about these. I still have a lot more product that I haven't even taken pictures of, and like I mentioned earlier, unfortunately, the pics aren't in any particular order. There are still boxes of stuff I haven't gotten to yet. I'm right in the middle of a big EV build, so this is a low priority compared to that and my organizational details are showing on that. If there is interest I will put more of a priority on it.

Jay, if you download the big pdf catalogue, here: http://swsct.sws.co.jp/components/en/0904components.pdf (it's a slow download) then you can search for part numbers. I've managed to locate that four way housing, part number 6180-4771, it's an MT series sealed connector so goes with those seals in an earlier photo.

Depending on the PDF viewer you use (I use Foxit, rather than the Adobe one) then you can search the whole PDF catalogue by part number. This should allow you to put all the parts together by connector series, making life a lot easier.
