"Monster Board" High power 4X4 board with ATV tires

The upper control arm is adjusted by rotation to vary the pivot angle.

I am pointing to the arm here. The heim Joints are right hand thread at one end and left hand thread on the other. This allows length adjustment by simply spinning the arm without disconnecting either end of the arm. This makes adjustment super easy.

My wife and son will be out of town this weekend. So, I we'll be working on the board feverishly. I hope to have the trucks mounted (with steering dampers and related equipment) and the drive units installed. The board should look somewhat complete by this weekend.

This thing is freaking GARGANTUAN! I knew what the overall measurements would be. But, seeing it layed out with all components, it looks so huge!

The angle in adjustable from roughly 30 degrees to 55 degrees.

Here is the main tube for the truck. The bearing fits into the end snugly. Flanged bearings are not easily available. So, in order to use a non flanged bearing, I must install a back stop. Here you can see the piece of aluminum tube I cut to install in the main tube as a bearing back shop.

The way I fixed the back stop inside the tube is by drilling holes around the tube and welding the back stop to the main tube through the holes.

Here is the center of the main tube. You can see I welded a curved doubler to strengthen the king pin junction. After welding the doubler, I milled a wide slot into center of the doubler to accept the king pin sleeve. This was done on both trucks.

This is the kingpin sleeve. I machined both sleeves to allow them to recess deeply into the truck main tube.

Turning radius and angle articulation.

The board will obviously have a wide deck on top of the frame. The deck will probably be 16, to 18 inches wide.

4 more hours of work netted some decent results.

Here is the competed deck (chassis). It is 17 inches wide. The sides have 10 degrees of kick-up. That is a touch over 3/4 inch concave in the middle of the deck.

The decking on top of the chassis will be 1/8 inch thick black G10 riveted down with 3/16 aluminum rivets. It should look very "Mad Max".

The 45 degree angle that the kick-up sides have at the corners was needed for tire clearance at max turning. Bear in mind, this thing is friggin HUGE. The 17 inch wide section of the deck is actually 26 inches long. So, PLENTY of room to stand even with tire clearance.

Some other bits were addressed today as well. But, nothing else worth showing.

I did some testing (just coasting) and found live axles will not work. Differentials are needed. So, I bought some generic differentials. Modifying the trucks to accept the differentials is the next step.
