these scooter uses four 12v 12ah battery = 24v 24ah pack,
the controller have a charger built in..

would it be any charging problem if I run two 12v 15ah battery = 24v 15ah pack :?:

Shouldn't be a problem. You will only limit your range.
You also might shorten the battery life a bit since you will be discharging the battery at a higher C rate.

thx for answering my noob question, :D

i found some info here regarding sla charging...
http://www.electricrider.com/batteries/index.htm

as for my charly,
the original controller or throttle doesn't seem to be working...
and i dont know how to test it,
running on donor parts from another 24v chinese scooter.
gonna upgrade to 36v soon...

What you need to pinpoint the problem is a DVM (Digital Volt Meter).
First of all make sure the controller is getting power. If not, check the fuse and the voltage directly from the battery.
Next disconnect the throttle connector to see that the throttle is getting power. The throttle is usually a 3 wire or 5 wire connector. 3 wires for the throttle and 2 for battery charge indication.
The throttle wires are usually red, green and black. The red is +5v the black is GND and green is the throttle. Measure the voltage between the red and black see if the throttle is getting power. If so, measure between the green and black, and play with the throttle. You should see the voltage rise as you twist the throttle.

hey, thx for the tip!
I will give it a try..

btw, the original controller says 50v on the caps, that means safe for overvolting, right?

if this controller is bad,
what is a good cheap controller for 36 or 48 v using this bosch brush motor ?

I have read to stay away from the variable voltage controllers...

The build quality of the controller looks top notch. The Chinese controllers sold on the web are crap compared to this.
I wouldn't replace this controller. I'd try to diagnose it and fix it. Replacing the controller means replacing or adapting the scooter wiring to the new controller.
Most likely the controller is fine.

ok, the Charly throttle is a potentiometer type

5k Ohm Throttle

http://www.electricscooterparts.com/thr ... tml#magura

so, how do I test it?
similar to the Hall effect throttle?

=========

The throttle wires are usually red, green and black. The red is +5v the black is GND and green is the throttle. Measure the voltage between the red and black see if the throttle is getting power. If so, measure between the green and black, and play with the throttle. You should see the voltage rise as you twist the throttle.

with my chinese 24v controller/throttle,
the wires are Red, black, green, and yellow
http://www.electricscooterparts.com/throttles.html#hall

instead of voltage increase, I see a voltage drop when I twist the throttle while measuring green and black.... :?:

being having too much fun with my Charly !!
24v 15ah sla  but still fun...

a bit heavy to lift into back of my suv,
I like the naked look, keeping the bodywork off,
add some standing platforms,
handlebar (non-adjustable) is a bit low for standing,
but dig the wide stance and low platform height (unlike my bladez)
would like bigger wheels, but the fat 10" looks cool...

not into standing up very much, just for bumps usually,
sitting is way more controlled and relaxing...
this scooter's low speed balance is awesome, maybe the fat tires? great for mixing with pedestrians,

took it to downtown San Jose today,
awesome way to cruise the wide sidewalks downtown and SJSU campus.

best moment was when two hot girls eyeing my ride and one said, "I need one of those."

weird moment,
caught up to a guy on a very nice electric bike, i think its custom made and non -hub,
I asked him if its electric, he said yes, and took off like he's in a hurry... :|
I thought he would at least check out my ride a bit... :(
