Electric Standing scooter project.

Postby Issacsdream » Tue Feb 14, 2012 7:23 pm

Good Morning/Afternoon/evening everyone (thing that would cover the time zones..)

Anyways I'm new here and have joined this site like alot of you to explore possibilities of electric power transport. I'm a first year mechanical engineering student and within this year I'm taking on 2 personal projects. First one being creating a electric scooter. But the problem is I'm not very knowledgeable about what exists currently in terms of parts and pieces and this thread if you allow it to live is kind of a cry for help for people more knowledgeable and wise then me to pass some of that on.

Without further ado first question is: Would I be able to find these type of wheels and hubs in production used on the mojo revolution scooter?
http://www.mojomotorsports.com/index_files/RevolutionHome.htm

Thank You.

^His blogs are an endless source of inspiration :p. Been meaning to mention that before.

If you want a simple project to start, I would check out fixing up an older used electric brushed motor scooter. These tend to retail for 400-700 dollars, but can be purchased used for <$100. And, almost always, it's just the batteries that are dead, and maybe also the throttle. From there you can move to just plugging in LiPo or going as far as retrofitting some RC motors and necessary controllers.

If you're into something more, then by all means, jump way ahead. I'm kind of stuck with an electric brushed 1000 watt standing/sitting scooter right now that I got quite bored of. but, I'm not quite yet at the level to decide or jump all the way into any more hardcore scooter projects I've been dreaming about. At least right now my tech/money/time isn't there.
New to endless-sphere? Notice a lot of signatures recommending Ebike.ca? That's because it's the best place for a quality and manageable, (but still 'real'), first build. Justin is a solid supporter of electric bike development, and a good source of equipment.

My hat off a thousand times to the green people that effectively run this forum. The ES Mods are superb.
