Razor E300 - how to quickly exchange batteries

Postby jotto » Fri May 04, 2012 2:41 pm

I'm in the process of modifying my Razor E300. I have installed a 36V controller, new throttle and 12S lipos.

I'd like to be able to quicky remove and install the batteries, for two reasons: I'm using the same batteries in a helicopter, and I prefer to charge the batteries in a fire safe vault.

I'm seeing two options, either

1) Cut the side of the battery box so that I can make a latch and load the batteries from the side
2) Make a quick release mechanism so that I can remove the top cover completely

Option 1 implies some restrictions on the battery size, as the scooter frame itself is covering part of the side of the battery box. Option 2 potentially requires quite some work in order to secure the cover AND allow for quick removal.

How are you guys doing it? Or do you mount the batteries in the scooter permanently?

i been trying to think of a solution to that problem also for my scooter (its got a wooden deck with 8 bolts, which I only use 2 to make it easier to remove.)

on the xtreme x-600,
it has a plastic deck with a hinge in the front and velcro holding it down.

You can use a safer chemistry such as a123 or Konion and just leave them permanently installed. Setup a low voltage cutoff to protect them. I did something similiar for my nieces and needed to make it fool proof. They have been very happy with the scooters and it has outperformed and outlasted their friends scooters.

I think that's a solution. Enough velcro and removing the screws is great. In my scooters I often just took out the bolts and they still had a hinge. When I rode was the only time the cover might fall off, and that's when my feet were on the deck and so it wouldn't. That said, this is a tiny bit of a crash hazard.
New to endless-sphere? Notice a lot of signatures recommending Ebike.ca? That's because it's the best place for a quality and manageable, (but still 'real'), first build. Justin is a solid supporter of electric bike development, and a good source of equipment.

My hat off a thousand times to the green people that effectively run this forum. The ES Mods are superb.
