You knew that I had to say it!

Lol... yes I also use flux all my soldering jobs. It just makes the solder flow nicely in between the wires. The solder practically sweats onto the wires, connectors, or board traces that I want it to, and it leaves a shiny finish so you know there's no cold solder joints.

At first I found the liquid solder (the kind you use on PC boards) works better than rosin core but it was also a bit expensive. But now I've found the paste flux (used by plumbers on copper pipes) works just as well and is pretty cheap to buy at the hardware store.

Tommy L wrote:You gotta love CANADA! We build in the Kitchen, and Solder on the BBQ! Woooooot! Go Canada!

LOL... working on ebikes in the kitchen isn't exclusive just to you Canadians only. I use my kitchen to work on my ebike because it's got the best lighting in the house. And I know for a fact Fechter and Dogman have their kitchen counters permanently cluttered with parts of ebike project builds too.

Now, everything must STOP, and i have to get cleaning the garage and office, it's horrible, i'm loosing tools i know i used seconds earlier, it's like the bermuda triangle in here, everything is piled up 2 ft deep and it's just impossible to work productively....

So since it's raining, tonight and tomorrow will be dedicated to cleaning and re-organizing before i even tough another project.. ok.. that's probably a lie... but i'm trying to convince myself..

oh, also, i've been flag hunting, not an easy item to find strangely enough.... i tried the local fire and safety safety place, no go, tried wal mart, nadda.. but i did pick up a fishing rod as a backup plan !!! :D .. then finally.. at Canadian Tire i found an orange unit so i picked that up too..

---

I only got a 20 second ride in, but it's exactly what i expected, an X5 at 100v is not new to me, and 60 amps max is only a tickle, a spirited one at 6000w, but not near the max potential, i plan to double that for roughly 120 battery amps and with adequate torque arms it's smoke show time ( hopefully from the tire.. .. )

Ypedal!
I purchased a Catrike last year and had run across these. I haven't purchased one because the local Bike Shop
gives away cheap fiberglass orange flag for free! lol :)

Ypedal, i'm impatient to see your results

About the flag, something you might want to consider is adding sime LED at the top of the stick. Thay make you far more visible Believe me !

Also as you go fast the stick begin to oscillate , making some fast moving bright led ! .. during the night, it make impossible to nit remark you!

I used some 12V led strip and s transparent heat shring tube to cover everything and make it waterproof.

I rode by a guy on his recumbant one time and notice his big colorful streaming 9-foot long flag.
I slowed down and asked "that's pretty cool and really got my attention... where did you get that?"
he answered "it used to be a tail on my kite".

Ah sweet!

You will also love to make donut on the pavement.. just put your weight on the front two wheel and it should help to not flip over...

Putting the battery between the two front wheel is something you will want to try!... it help for stability!

Great video Gaston

How do you mount the packs in front without them getting in the way of your legs ?

Donuts on pavement, that's going to require a bit more amps.. I really need to learn how to tweak the controller via USB, that's unchartered territory for me....

I orderd 4 of the Vee 3" rubber tires today, once those arrive and i remove the rear wheel, i'm adding the Doc-B torque arms ( i have a 2nd set, un-used, on their way from a forum member , along with a tube of DP420 ) .. also need to do this on the chopper.

CA says i put back 13% regen !!!! ( 0.596ah on a 4ah run !! ) :o

I also managed to get this X5304 in the 60 celcius range, that's an all time high for me !

The battery i have is right in the intersection of the "T" shape frame and under my legs. The battery is 8 inch height and is perfect and allow my legs to have a seat when i dont pedal. The battery is sitting on the bom and the front wheel transversaal beam and stop right where the two screw are for tightening the bom.

You will love to be able to program these controller!.. the nanotech will like that

The 3" vee rubber are probably the best tire for confort and also drift.. ( if you combine them with the zero 44mm wide rim)

remember that 60 celsius on the winding is nothing for that motor.. Mine suffered from 260 celsius ans is still alive... But 60 celsius on the side cover mean nothing since the stator can be like 150 celius while the side cover is 60.. that's why i install teh temp sensor right on the winding

This is where i installed the temp sensor on all my motor:

I used the Canadian tire 14$ BBQ temp sensor as usual for all my motors

-removed the probe from stainless steel tube by unpinching it with pryers
-installed a shrink tube to protect the thinny connections
-installed it to have the little glass bulb sensor touching the winding
-added some thermal compound
-secured the wires
-done!

That's some nice power you got there Gaston!
Looks like a lot of fun being able to break the back end loose too.
I think Doc is right... try to shift some of that battery weight toward the front.
It'll be better to not have all that weight whip around in the rear end
and you should have more control and be able to recover back into a straight
line.

BTW... been meaning to ask you... how are you liking the Nanotechs?
Other than being able to charge them at more than 2C, and seeing less
voltage sag when you gun it from a dead stop, do you notice any other
benefits?

Doc... thanks for showing that info on the temp sensor. I've got 3 different digital
temp sensors and I'm trying to decide which one to use and where best to mount
the sensor. I seen many others glue their sensors to the metal frame of the stator
but I think it makes more sense glueing it directly to the coil windings like you did.

Thank you Gaston!

I greatly appreciated it! I know it takes time to shoot, edit, upload. I really enjoy the video's of
members projects here on ES. Pictures tell a thousand words! :) Nice Flag! It's not STEALTH
but you will quickly notice that people will SEE you!

Nice work! I see that you had GLOVES on! Always wear your gloves, hands seem to end up on the ground.... ouch! :)

Peace!

Forward weight (up at the cruciform) is a very good idea assuming your legs are long enough to allow your feet to clear the box. I have been running them like that since the beginning. However, there are applications that require different pack mounting. I am working on a customer build right now that requires a huge amount of battery and his legs are not quite long enough to clear a cruciform box. So, the seat will be slighly elevated and the box located under it.
