Visualize the seas ... and space

MSNBC today - Visualize the seas ... and space
Tag line - "An animation by NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio tracks global ocean currents."

This is pretty cool! The downside is that the resolution is not that great, and there is no control over the flyover; yer stuck in the passenger seat. I'd like to be able to roll the globe around, zoom in and observe the fine details because that is really the most interesting part: Micro-currents! How are these affected by seasons? What if I were a sailor? How does this affect wind patterns (or vise versa)? So many questions, and I just want to play with the data! 8)

ADDENDUM: NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Perpetual Ocean animation source.
