Who Will you vote for?

Post by Drunkskunk » Jun 10, 2012 3:56 pm

Who will you vote for in the upcoming Presidential elections? And in the lo0se context of our hobby, why?

As for me, I'm fed up with all the parties and candidates. There aren't even any good alternatives. This country needs a Great man to step up, and none have been found in decades. Infact, who was the last great leader? Reagan?.. Err.. Kenedy?.. Hmmm.. FDR? We're over due for someone worthy of the office.

Gary Johnson, no question.

In the context of our hobby, and life in general, he is more oriented towards a freer market, less war, smaller govt, civil rights, and more liberty for the people than any other candidate on the ballot.

And as as bonus, he doesn't have the racist skeletons in his closet like Ron Paul has.
I am a former 4 time democrat voter and see him as the closest thing to a democrat running for office.

Thankfully our Head of State happens to be Queen Elizabeth II, who's done a splendid job for the past 60 years and doesn't need electing. Worth thinking about, as we invented democracy, you know..................

(also worth noting that a lot of members of this forum don't happen to be able to vote for the new president of your country, and the forum happens to be owned and run by a Canadian, and Canada is still (just) a part of the British Commonwealth...........)

Funny old thing that, isn't it? Last time I looked China had a population that was around 4 times that of the USA, and I think even India has a population of that's about 3 times that of the USA. The USA only makes up around 4.5% of the World's population, I believe.

I almost puked, but voted for Obama and (gag) Lois Capps. ~ California ~

My vote on Federal stuff this time is all about health care, like most of the civilized world has.

Locally, gov. pensions need to be either cut or employee paid. ESPECIALLY pensions for cops and fireman.

And yet the U.S. control something like 25% of the world's wealth. That's why our election is a global issue. What happens on election day will effect the rest of the world, so this poll is open to anyone with interest or an oppinion.

With all due respect to your Queen, but F#@# her that's why I am proud to be an American and not a subject. The US is not a democracy it is a democratic republic and as far as I can remember the Greeks had democracy whilst the Angles were still fighting in caves....just saying that I hate monarchies, but you can love them if you want too.

I won't vote for a president again until there is a candidate worth voting for. No more choosing between a boot in the teeth and a boot in the 'nads for me. If we had a "no confidence" option, I'd vote that way (and I'm confident we'd win).

I voted for Nader twice. I suppose I could make it thrice for old times' sake, or for entertainment value. Not that it would matter anyway.

I expect the wheels to come off our political system before a meritorious leader arises. Hopefully after that, we'll make a hard turn to the left and I can become interested again.

You know you are addressing a group dominated by citizens of two formerly oppressed British colonies, right?

The Athenians beat y'all to the whole democracy thing, back when cave Limeys were occupied poking holes in each other with pointed sticks and standing rocks on end. They even invented the word.

Here in the USA, we don't have a hereditary aristocracy; we have racketeer-oligarchs instead. They are just as foul, but a lot sassier.

Apologies to the rest of the world as we drag out the laundry.

Obama for me. The first time I roundly endorsed him, although now I think he is isn’t anything special; middle of the road young democrat. He's better than what we had. More to the point: I cannot vote for the party of obstructionists. Rarely do we see bills that come out of the Legislature where both parties are working together, and it’s frustrating. I won’t support small-minded Republicans having the sole purpose of blocking or undoing Obama’s administration; that’s treasonous in my book. The last good republican was Reagan. After that, I became unaffiliated and definitely voted against republicans. Although in my state we have had to declare a party to vote in the Primary which is like the dumbest gerrymandering crooked trick to justify funding and boundaries if there ever was.

I prefer to paint myself as a “Centrist” and having interests that cross over several platforms. As I grow older, I like the idea of forming a coalition government, and that we should have a PM (instead of a President) that is replicable. I think we in the United States should have direct vote and not this Electoral College that steals the popular vote: When common people lacked education, before we had mass media and instant communication, the EC made sense. But we’re not hayseed farmers anymore; we’re cultured educated citizens living better than most of the world in modern cities, and I think we’re mature enough to make up our own minds who should be leading the country.

And to finish, I wouldn’t lose sleep if both Democrat and Republican parties imploded into oblivion. We need better alternatives than posturing posers trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill; I hate the helplessness every voter must feel when watching these events in Congress play out like a bad day in Kindergarten. Elected officials need to do the job they were elected for: Work for the best interests of the People, even if it means compromise - because some government is more useful than none at all. And while we’re at it, I’d really like a balanced budget and a plan to pay off the national debt that cannot be rescinded. That's just so basic to business. I mean, WTF is wrong with these people that we've hired?

I'll take obstructionism over surrenderism any day of the week!

Every meaningful election since the presidential election of 2008 the American people has rejected what Obama is doing to this country. Has he reassessed his agenda and moderated his objectives? Hell no! He has gone full tilt boogie forward with an agenda the people of this country clearly don't want.

Until November 6th, obstructionism is the best we can do short of impeachment, which unfortunately isn't possible.

Romney is certainly not my candidate of choice, but I'll certainly be voting for him. Obama has done things to this country that go beyond anything I thought I would see in my lifetime. I have felt we were on the slow slide away from the Constitution my whole life, but with Obama it has become an avalanche.

I find it laugh out loud hilarious that you put having a balanced budget and a plan to pay off the national debt as two top priorities, yet you still like Obama. The lowest priority of Obama is lowering the debt and having a balanced budget. Hell this administration has been running for over 1,000 days WITHOUT ANY BUDGET WHATSOEVER!
