45?.. Congratz.

Looks like you got spared the dreaded walk-of-shame. I imagine the windings were ready to go and by good fortune, it happened at home.
Have a Nice Day,

ayyyeeyyyyee, the CLIFF! i guess you've run up on that, huh, Jay? glad you stayed up mate!

ebiking keeps adrenaline pumping through my veins. it doesn't do much for these muscles.

as for age, i can't imagine how my grandfather made it to 105! hard work and undereating. i've lived far too hard to get close to that, i can assure you.

as far as a hub motor goes, i'm not sure. since i've got two running, i might need to destroy one first. that one was the first where the windings went... if that is what happened. i'm somewhat intrigued at rewinding it, but doubt i'll get that far.

i can say that it's been VERY nice using the same wheel, the MC wheel in the magnet ring, to run the vented motor or the oiled. swapping them out was a piece of cake.

Yeah nice view from the top, not so nice when the ground is crumbling under you and there's a bloke in a robe and hood poking you in the back with his boney fingers!

Taken the oiled stator for a strap yet ? Don't forget the rear facing camera - I predict smoke :D

i've been wrecked but really missing this bike, so determined to get it back on the road. the pack is a friggin mess. so just shut up, ok? i don't want to hear it.

first of all, i'm really not sure if this controller will survive in this location. that's why i fixed the temp sensor...
Image

i had great ideas about how to mount the power plug, but it was 100F in the garage and i was sweating and mosquitos were attacking me... so this is what i ended up with, for now
Image
there are a number of problems with this layout, but whatver, i'm just testing the controller.

and i got to ride it in to work! felt so nice! the weight, suspension, so much more like a motorcycle. lower cg...

not as much power as i remembered! not as quick off the line as the 9C?? hmmm.... i didn't notice smoke coming from the motor. this is the stator that was in the oiled motor, and now is in vented sidecovers...

anyway, when motor hit 100C, the controller (according to temp sensor taped to fet screw outside the controller) was 60C. so that's somewhat of a relief.

anyone know what controller temp is the limit?

Man that is one sexy looking bike! Why don't you get a falconev frame bag? Keep the entire mess on the inside and make it look neat on the outside. Because that's all that really matters.
I'll buy the used H series motor off of you if you don't want it any more or decide not to rewind it. I could use some rewindin practice myself, could be a good skill to know when I actually need to use it.

hey trackman, lemme think about that. unless you just want the stator, i gotta think if i'll need the extra sidecover/magnet ring, etc.

the case will get covered w/ cordura w/ velcro and should look pretty clean when done. i just didn't want to cover it before i got a feel what the controller could handle uncovered...

the motor hit 110C at the base of my long hill on my return commute! i wonder if the oil is gunking up and making it hotter. the varnished motor never got that hot!

i might spray it w/ T9 to see if that does anything.

anyway, the controller only got to 70C, but that's hotter than i want touching the lipos...

so i remembered where i have some small fans probably perfect for the job:
Image
12 brushless, huh?
Image
think i can connect 12V across the blacks and reds? i'd prefer not to burn them straight away.

and come to think of it, rather than remount them poorly, the enclosure is a pretty nice size...
Image

that's my dead sensorless controller i use for size purposes.

Alright, cool. Send me a pm on the details and maybe some pics.

Idk what cordura is, but I bet it would look good when your done with it  . Why do you wait to make a new enclosure for your bike right when fall starts? Do you commute in the winter?

just loose, sacman. gonna follow FT's advice!

finished the cordura pack but it instantly became a prototype. gonna redo it. pics later.

in other news, i'm trying to decide if i should get surgery. both shoulders have labral tears along w/ other arthroscopically fixable issues. but recovery is long, if indeed successful. i'm considering doing it in the fall. but the time off the bike and heck time to fully heal...

the left shoulder was injured ages ago, but the right was injured in my endocouple years ago, though i didn't know it at the time...

as i was thinking about it friday night, i happened to find this on netflix, on youtube in 5 parts:

it's relevant because despite his surgeries he's always gone for it. hell of a good documentary, brought back great memories from the era, and totally adds context to all the big air you see these days. and he hooks up a weed whacker to bmx to get speed for huge jump!

Usually you can feel it when a crank arm is loose, but if you don't pedal much at all, then that would be why you may haven't noticed it. I know the feeling well as I have to tighten mine every few months, but I pedal a lot.

so i'm back to putting the controller in the triangle.

i really don't see the value of removing the controller from the enclosure however...

but if i removed the controller end cap and attach these fans, and holy crap, the screws all line up and fit the controller enclosure perfectly, :P then it's doable.
Image
i removed the fans from psu body but will keep that plastic end plate.

i was gonna just do it all up and then take nice pics, but i've got a question...

how to power the fans? they are rated for 12V .35A:
Image
why mess around trying to tap cells (esp when i sometimes charge bulk, sometimes charge 5s) when i can use a little switch regulated charger and tap the main battery leads?

i have two on hand: a 9V 3A adapter and a 5V .1A cell phone charger. which should i use? both work ok. the 5V is quieter but draws enough air through. the 9V 3A is louder but i'm worried it will provide too much current to the little fans.

so nevermind about how much air the controller needs. how do these little motors deal w/ being under or overvolted, and given too much or to little current? appreciate any feedback. hyena, u awake? paging hyena. lol.
