"After" looks better than "before". Possible?

Postby SamTexas » Sun Feb 05, 2012 3:53 pm

I've built 3 ebikes. Functionally, they meet or exceed my expectation.

Aesthetically, they all fail miserably. I try and try hard but still unable to make the electrified version look better than the normal version. But I'm sure there are exceptions out there. So this thread is for people who are able to achieve that lofty goal.

If you believe your "after" creation looks better than the original bicycle, please post here.

Not too tough for me as the bike was a bit of a basket case when I got it.

My Stiletto chopper ebike has most of the electrical stuff hidden so it looks stealth.
So the "after" only looks better because I found someone MORE PRETTY THAN ME to pose on it. Lol...

Batts & Controller are mounted to the bottom tube...

I'm also trying to mount more batts behind the seat so they're sandwiched between the seat and the rear fender.

Oooohhh....I like it!
Fancy threads... whose your tailor?
(Sorry that case around the frame looked like a studded vinyl or leather wrap at first.)
Nice color match with the tires.

man I put a lot of miles on it but lost count,

it's well used so I shouldn't be feel too bad extending converting the rear to 26"

Love the dual hub look so I'll build another DCR someday but the only way I'm gonna have a hub on the fork with today's hub design is if I use a custom made fork 8)

Lol... that's no supermodel cut & paste. That's the girl next-door to my brother. She saw us and came out when we were test riding the chopper ebike out in front (after I just finished wiring it up) and she wanted to try... so we let her. Of course I took pics of her on it. I got a video I made too somewhere here (I'll post it if I find it).

BTW Jay... I really liked the Revive. You need to bring that thing back to life my friend.

This is kind of a mashup of a poopy girls ezip and a beach cruiser frame and fork combination I had lying around. I regret I had not taken pictures of the before, but the husk of the ezip
Frame should say it all.
Image

After getting the good stuff of of it I threw the motor, wheels, brakes, throttle and some fresh bars onto the cruiser. The banana seat and the Harley rack should look nice with some leather saddle bags to hold the battery and controller. Going for a good lookin stealth bike, hiding the motor behind some leather should also help a bit with the loud currie motor.

Sacman - I love the battery mounting method. Very simple and effective, looks secure.
Mush! Mush you electrons! Push harder!

thanks, man..I miss it too.. The reactions to the DCR are priceless, and I still get compliments! I'm no attention whore but man it can get addicting  I just remembered the first year of putting it all together ... I was excited and motivated to experiment with raw parts I bought at the electronics district akihabara. I never thought I'd become an Akihabara geek. It's a great lifestyle, really :) I'd miss Akiba if we had to move too far.. I think maybe I started a trend with bicycle sounds systems here, I'm seeing packs of teens in my town riding bikes with small radios in their baskets, but it's weird cos they were playing different tunes at the same time, so how do you enjoy you're tunes? Obviously not music lovers, just bandwagon jumpers lol!

That's a sweet ride you got there... the bike ;) Get yourself a back rest and ape hangers and lean back, you won't regret it... You got steel gears or plastic?

Cool story with the neighbor girl. Be sure to say aloha to the-girl-next-door for me

I love the style of that bike, I really do have this obsession with that early 1900's look. Makes even not so tough bikes badass, the only way to make my currie drive even worth it is to dress it up a bit.
