Had a spare fatbike that was a runabout for the beach but when I moved up to the hills and had to ride to work I decided to convert it to an e-bike with the luna cycles 100mm bbshd kit with the 52V 14ah battery.

Had to grind off a cable guide for the front derailleur so the motor tucked up nicely but apart from that the install went smoothly.

I have just switched over the brakes to some SRAM Guides hoping that the 4 pot calipers give me more stopping power than the SRAM DB5 brakes that were on it. Still having problems with the bafang brake cutoff sensor cables too - the brake body has no flat spots to stick the sensor and the levers don't move much.

So far this was a surprisingly simple project and does the job well although I might reprogram the motor tonight and tweak the power on/off and ramping settings. I'm worried I'll destroy the wimpy 11-speed cassette and chain on it with one to many bad gear changes.

Well the bike runs great but the bloody crank arm fell off every km back from work. So it's pretty rooted now. Lasted 20km. The drive side one is wiggling a bit too.
Apparently this is pretty common?

I stuck some small high power magnets to the end of the reach adjuster knob on the brake levers with a hot glue gun. I then zip-tied the brake cut off sensor to the brake lever body in front of the magnets. This has worked fine off-road for many months including a big crash!

Kool bike.
The hand built Rocky Mountain frames are works of art!

That's a great idea with the brake sensors. Thanks. I'm glad I kept the blizzard and not sell it cheap and buy a new e-bike. Always loved the frame and decals.

Got some old square tapered crankarms to replace the flogged out bafang ones. Works great but it's testing my ok OCD!

Found some road tyres for my commute to work. A lot quieter and rather retro.

Very nice build! I have a 2017 Rocky Mountain Blizzard -30 frame and it looks like the BBSHD may interfere with the chain stay. I was wondering if you had to use spacers? If so, how many spacers did you have to used to avoid the chain stay?
Thank you for your help.
