Brushless Boat Motors and Electric Boats

Electric Boats are certainly a frontier that I have not seen much information about. One advantage of being out on the water is lack of things (such as trees, mountains, hills, bridges) to get in the way of your solar energy. I can see how a boat with electric power via solar panels, batteries, etc. can keep things going on for quite a while provided that the sun shines bright.

Take a look at http://www.duffyboats.com/ They are SLA but I see them on the ICW frequently. Then again a dealer is not far from here, no electric bike dealers, just the Duffy dealer.

That's cool. 150lb thrust! That should make a kayak go pretty fast

I didn't see where it said brushless, but I don't think they make any brushed motors anymore. It also says for fresh water only

Is the motor the same as a Mars motor?

Cool.

I like the little scrubber motor with the built in gear box. It might make a good bottom bracket drive.

These pannels have powered my boats, ebikes and Home for the last 22 years.I charge the batteries at home with them but put them on the boat for a day to do a 20 mile solar crossing in 4 hours to another Hawaiian island and back to Maui.I used a 2 lb brushless submersiable motor I made.

I was looking at the Duffy site, and it says ~10hp. Now what would a well designed 4 stroke 10hp inboard motor be like? It certainly wouldn't be noisey or stinky, and efficiency should be top notch as boats run in a narrow RPM range.

We have found a tremendous number of boaters and nonboaters who are seeking a quiet alternative to messy and loud outboards

Interesting how they compare an electric inboard to a (presumeably) 2 stroke outboard.

Anyways, my personal boating experience is limited to supercharged Chevy big block power at 100 knots, but I think a small electric watercraft would be cool.

The thrust requirements of (even a good sized) displacement hull are quite small at displacement hull speeds...........and boats sit in the sun all summer, even when not being used.......been there, done all that years ago w/ tiny gas motors and tiny (by today's standards....~ 2 sq ft)) solar panel for the bilge pump.....no generator on the motor and no recharging the battery all summer............oh ya ..pump would squirt a bit every hr or so.....

New Products in this field are growing! And for a good reason.Do you Know of any?

Good reasons for e-boats? Or any e-boats around?

Reasons include stealth?

This e-boat has a range of about 80 miles at 8 knots... Impress your friends:

Not sure if brushless though...
