This sounds like a great idea http://www.ev-network.org.uk

Basically a map showing all the public charging points for EVs in the UK (very few so far), but the clever bit is that you can sign up to say you are willing to provide opportunity charging to anyone who happens to be in your neighbourhood. The map then shows everyone else who has signed up. The scheme has only just started up, so the coverage isn't great yet... I registered and found out I now have the first EV charging point in the north east! Please form an orderly queue :D

Wonderful idea!

Do they have anything like this for the US? I'll e-mail them to find out and post any information I get here.

I recall buying a kit of different electrical connectors for a trip to Great Britain about 20 years ago. Are they a uniform size and shape now?

Interesting! Our mains voltage connectors (domestic plugs/devices) have been the same for over 30 years - a 3 pin type with vertically aligned earth at the top and two horizontal pins across 'bottom' carrying live and neutral. Some bathrooms have a 2 pin round pin connector - losing the earth for obvious reasons.

Industry uses a whole raft of different plugs depending on amps and volts.

The idea of a pack of adaptors for visitors has me confused !

you actually dont need this if you just buy a generator and charge your car on it during those rear 100mile+ journeys. probably still more fuel efficient than a regular car.
