heavy duty (50lb & 250lb) releasable-reusable nylon zip ties

Postby MitchJi » Sat May 05, 2012 3:31 pm

Hi,

I just ran across something pretty cool... it's a heavy duty push button style nylon zip tie. It looks pretty much like regular nylon zip ties, except it has a push button (push lever) release for the ratchet. So rather than cutting the zip tie off the lever can be pushed and the zip tie can be reused.

Here's a picture:

Searching for the image to post I found this quote:
I get the seven inch ones at Home Depot...about $2 for 15. Harbor Freight has several different lengths in one of their current catalogs.

I also found this source, some of these have a tensile strength rating of 250 pounds! Might be a good way to reinforce duct tape (like rebar in concrete) or they might be competition for Matt's frame clamps :P :).

I've found that the stainless steel ones are very small and strong and good for bike use.

They're standard in Europe.
However you can't open them the way you say, as it does not have a button to open it.
YOu'll need a flat screwdriver, to open the lid.
they can only be opened so many times before the small teeth start wearing out.

Damn good find! I have about 100 of the normal zip ties on my bike. Here's to hoping I don't have to replace them all
