To illustrate the vain conceit that the universe must be somehow pre-ordained for us, because we are so well-suited to live in it, he mimed a wonderfully funny imitation of a puddle of water, fitting itself snugly into a depression in the ground, the depression uncannily being exactly the same shape as the puddle."

Is there a site somewhere with a summary of the tech used on this bike ?
motor
Cells
Controller
etc
Or is it all hush hush ?

I cant seem to open the webpage linked, but assuming it is a standard Zero, then there's some information on the Zero site itself aobut their batteries and motor and whatnot, for various model years, and theyv'e also been discussed now and then here on ES.

Present battery packs appear to be EIG NMC cells, in 20Ah pouch format. I think Jay64 has some of these cells via another source, and has pics in one of his threads. JonesCG is working on getting info from EIG on quantity pricing for them, but they are about $74 each (dunno if that's AUD or USD) in singles.

I expect the controller is a Sevcon, and I think the motor was Motenergy brushless but I am not very sure about that. No idea on what models either one might be even if my brand-recall is correct. :(

That's all good info on Zero's my man, but Zero didn't enter the Isle of Man race.

He is talking about Michael Rutter on the motoczysz electric superbike breaking the 100mph average lap speed benchmark on the isle of man. Along with the Mugen electric bike, and the other motoczysz electric bike.

Awesome job guys!! Outstanding!

Ah, well, since I can't open the page itself for some reason, and none of the article or info was copied to this thread, I made an assumption based on the last visible characters of the link.

I missed the other link posted, and hadn't gone there yet. :(

Interesting to see how serious Honda are about developing an electric race bike.
That may well mean that a electric Honda road bike is not far away ! :o

it will be interesting to see three, perhaps four genuine contenders for the electric bike racing crown - MotoCzysz, Mugen (Honda), Muench and perhaps Zhongshen.

Motoczysz uses a Remy HVH250 stator and rotor with custom case and cooling. A Rhinehart controller which might have a custom case and cooling. And a Kokam battery pack about 14kWh. 350VDC system I believe able to do about 150kW (at least that is the limit of the controller I believe.

When you have ridden the TT curcuit it puts the achievements of the riders and builders of these bikes into perspective, to get to Ramsey with an average speed of 119 mph and still have sufficient power to get over the mountain while maintaining the ave above 100 mph is mind blowing.

I have c+p'd the artical in here for amberwolf and anyone else who the link wont work for

Michael Rutter and Team Segway Racing MotoCzysz made history on the Isle of Man today by becoming the first team to record a 100mph lap of the course in the SES TT Zero race in what is being hailed as one of the greatest achievements in the event’s one hundred and five year history.

The landmark lap also earned Rutter the £10,000 prize from the Isle of Man Government.

John McGuinness closely followed Rutter home on the Team Mugen Shinden machine with Michael Rutter’s MotoCzysz teammate Mark Miller taking the final podium slot, with all three breaking the prestigious 100mph mark, which was first achieved by a conventional bike by Scotsman Bob McIntyre in 1957.

After a series of weather delays and revisions to the running order, ten machines lined up for the 2012 SES TT Zero race at the Isle of Man TT Races. Damp patches were reported around the course following the earlier rain but nothing was going to prevent the Midlands man from his history-making lap.

Michael Rutter had the honour of carrying the number one plate and was the first away down Glencrutchery Road and quickly established a lead of over 30 seconds at the first checkpoint at Glen Helen from John McGuinness with Mark Miller a further 3 seconds back in third. Yoshinari Matsushita, representing Japanese outfit Komatti-Mirai Racing was running in fourth place with Rob Barber on the Austrian TGM IOT outfit completing the top five.

With Matsushita dropping out of the race before Ballaugh Bridge, Rob Barber moved up to fourth but at the front of the field Rutter continued to set the pace with an average speed of 118.730mph and a lead of almost a minute from second placed John McGuinness.

Miller was quickest through the speed trap at 132.6mph with John McGuinness at 128.8 and Michael Rutter 126.6, down on the 152mph he set in qualifying but Rutter continued to be on the pace for the ‘ton’ and reached Ramsey Hairpin in 12:53.24 (119.653mph).
The capacity grandstand waited anxiously for news and when Rutter’s time of 20:31.00 (107mph) was reported at Cronk-ny-mona the crowd rose as one in anticipation of witnessing history.

Rutter duly crossed the line in 21:45.33 (104.056mph) and wrote his name and that of MotoCzysz in the TT Races Record books. The final podium received added poignancy with both John McGuinness on the Team Mugen (22:08.85-102.215mph) and Mark Miller (22:23.97-101.065mph) joining Michael Rutter in breaking the 100mph+barrier.

After the race a delighted Michael Czysz said:

“The greatest motorcycle riders and manufacturers in history are synonymous with the Isle of Man TT Races and I am so proud to be adding the name Segway Racing MotoCzysz to that list. What the team has achieved today is truly ground-breaking and is the culmination of years of hard work.”

If anyone is wondering what a 100mph TT lap looks like, the video below shows (an unfortunately edited down) Rally driver Tony Pond completing the first 100mph lap in a production car in 1990 (a record not equaled until about a year ago).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NEskpWsMkI

It's a shame it's not the complete video, which interestingly shows the changing weather conditions around the circuit, like in the mountain section.

I love how they sound like vehicles from Sci-fi :D

Not quite the noise and drama of ICE vehicle racing, though.

The Motoczysz motor is being used as part of the hybrid drivetrain in an E-adaptation of the Volta Volare aircraft. The combination of electric power and gasoline-engine provide enough power for a reasonably short takeoff, so that during cruise a smaller engine can be used than would normally be chosen. The small battery pack also adds a back-up power to land under control in case of engine failure.

That was way cool! Thanks for the articles and videos. Strange that I was at the Open Road Festival yesterday, Sep 8th, showing off my ebike with the A123 AMP20's. A group formed and started talking about how cool it'd be if we'd sponsor an ebike race every year with the festival. Its right next door to WPI, best tech school in New England (excepting MIT). So I've got something to show now. Awsome!
