Minnesota's House Republicans are laying out a transportation funding plan:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota's House Republicans are laying out a transportation funding plan that would charge a new $75 surcharge on electric car owners.

The plan released Tuesday would put $2 billion toward transportation over the next two years largely by diverting existing taxes on car parts and rentals. The rest would come from the new surcharge and borrowing.

Top House transportation leader Rep. Paul Torkelson says lawmakers haven't singled out any specific projects but will put a focus on roads and bridges across the state.

It leaves out a major priority for urban Democrats: operational costs for light rail projects.

Republicans say it's a divisive issue that local governments should have to pay for in their own areas.

[Sigh]

Raise taxes, debt spending, bigger government. This is all government will ever know how to do.

The government is the one and only enemy of the electric bicycle community.

Ugh, more libertarian crap? Guess we don't need roads if we all just buy knobby tires, eh?

As though we couldn't build roads on our own without the government wasting all our money.

Let me ask you ano, on a thread about the government putting a totally arbitrary tax on electric vehicles, how do you come here with a straight face and say that all we need is even MORE government taxes and regulation? It seems like you ought to be here apologizing for advocating the very bureaucracy that taxes and disadvantages the vehicles we're trying to promote.
