On Earth right now. That can change at any time, t
I just configured my Model 3 and finalized my order!

It only took 23 months to get to this point.

They say 3 to 6 weeks to take delivery.

Who else has a Model 3 on order?

Matt

23 months! You're lucky! We'll be waiting another 23 months at this rate! :) All good, they can take their time, I haven't got the money anyway...

I am not rich either. Honestly, this purchase is for my business. I do appliance repair. I budget $800 per month for vehicle payment and gas. The Tesla payment will be $780 per month. That just leaves charging cost (insurance too obviously).

i wouldnt let Tesla know that !..
........ there are some nasty stories of Tesla owners who use their cars for business, having the warranty declined in case of repairs. Even minor faults like door hanldles or loose trim, can end up costing $1000s due to Teslas "closed shop" policy for repairs and spare parts.
Some "S" owners have been forced to pay extortionate costs for replacement components like drive units and batteries due to declined warranties.
i believe there is some fine print in the warranty docs regarding business use.

Yup, I know.

My business does not require any vehicle lettering or any special equipment installation, just a couple boxes of parts in the trunk. So, I will just remove the parts from the trunk when it goes in for service. One other thing I plan on doing is use my previous work vehicle (2013 Ford C-Max hybrid) 1 or 2 days per week. This will keep excess miles off the Tesla. I really want the 120,000 mile inverter and battery warrantee to last through my loan period. Oh, I am also tinting the windows and adding aftermarket wheels. These are things no-one does to a work vehicle. That should throw them off the scent too.

What's funny about this is; I have read the Model 3 warrantee information in full and there is absolutely no mention of commercial use what-so-ever. It does mention excessive weight in the car, modifications to the car, and aftermarket parts no being covered. But, no mention of commercial use. I think taxi service is an issue because of the hard driving in the city with extra passengers and huge miles driven. My business merely requires a vehicle to get my sorry butt to each clients home so I can do the work. I am not towing anything or carrying passengers. So, my car is not directly doing any work or directly earning me any money. I do not need a commercial insurance policy either, just a normal vehicle insurance policy.

It is funny, all manufacturers that I have ever purchased cars from have a commercial use exclusion in their warrantee. So, this is nothing new to me. What IS new to me is driving an expensive vehicle.

A little something to tide me over while I wait to take delivery of my car.

It is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum.

In case you are wondering, this was made by www.billetframes.com. I have ordered 5 or 6 machined frames from them over the years and I have been very happy. This frame was $39 IIRC.

They must be starting to deliver them, passed a transport truck going up the freeway today completely loaded with nothing but them, what a sight, the cars all covered in protective plastic but they looked real real nice!

Tesla seem to have abandoned their original roll out plan of "CA first" followed by a progressive expansion,...to now having a much wider distribution of the first production vehicles.

Maybe so.

It has been 4 weeks since I configured my car, my order confirmation deposit has come though my bank, and Tesla emailed me telling me the next step is to receive my VIN. That should happen soon. Once my VIN is assigned, I will finalize the credit app, complete my down payment, and activate insurance, then they will set a delivery date.

It is getting close!

Awesome, very keen to see it. Do you know what wheels you're going to order?

Still got quite a long time before I get mine, right hand drive cars are a way down the priority list I'm sure. I ordered before the reveal event even began, so hopefully I'm early on the Australia/NZ list at least!

I bet you could write off the loan payment (plus mileage etc) as a business expense in your taxes and get some of that money back.

I am getting standard wheels. I will use those for winter and I am buying 19s or 20s for summer use.

Entry-Level Tesla Model 3 Delayed Until Late 2018:
https://www.carscoops.com/2018/03/entry-level-tesla-model-3-delayed-late-2018/

Starts:
Tesla has been touting the Model 3’s $35,000 price tag for years but the truth is, you still can’t get one for anywhere near that.

Instead, the car launched with the optional long-range battery which enables the Model 3 to travel 310 miles (498 km) on a single charge. This is a significant improvement over the base model – which can only travel 220 miles (354 km) between charges – but it raises the price of the Model 3 by nearly $9,000. This makes the car more expensive than rivals such as the Chevrolet Bolt and Nissan Leaf.

Unfortunately, fans looking to get their hands on the base model are in for a bit of a wait as Car and Driver reports the entry-level Model 3 has been pushed back to “late 2018.” As a result, it is scheduled to arrive after the all-wheel drive variant which is pegged for the middle of this year.

Industry insiders report automotive engineers struggling with placement locations for the pedals...

Insurance arranged, delivery specialist assigned, financing arranged and approved.

Sheesh, this is nearly twice as much as I have ever paid for a car before. It is like buying a Corvette! Thank God my business is paying for this. Of course, as a self employed person, it still is costing ME ultimately.

Now I wait for a delivery date.

Of course, I could always list it on Turo a few days per month to defray cost if I want.

You could, but if they are anything like me, I would drive it pretty hard. I once rented a Mustang from a major rental agency for a weekend. Returned it with pads scraping the rotors. I was much younger, but I do drive the Car2Go's pretty hard also, nothing crazy anymore, just pin it from a stand still and brake pretty heavily at the next light. Oh and do corners pretty fast also.
