Find 20 inches front rim with disc brake

Postby alex_audi » Fri Jun 15, 2012 7:49 am

Hi,
Please where can I buy a 20 inches rim arranged for disc brake?
All 20 inches rims are for Bmx bikes and are not equipped with correct hub for disc.
It must also have the same width of front MTB rims.

the disk is a feature of the HUB not the RIM..

any rim can be used with disk brakes if the hub has bolt holes for it..

not all rims can use V-brakes or caliper brakes however..

I've never seen one pre-built for a disk.

But getting one is easy. Buy a disk hub. Buy a rim. (Make sure they have the same spoke hole count) Go to your local bike shop and have them add the spokes.
Buy the ticket, take the ride.

might want to email johnrobholmes , he may have some already built, if not , he can make it happen.

Many trikes use 20" rims with disk hubs, but problem is the axle types, single sided and no the same as bicycles.

"Go to your local bike shop and have them add the spokes."

not always that easy, in January I went to several bike shops to have a 20" disc wheel built, sorry come back in a few weeks, or sure we can build it, if you already have the spokes cut. This is in Chicago, not some small town that's lucky to have a bike shop. Well, I went on u-tube and saw various 36h bmx builds. I bougt a front disc 36h hub, got 36h rim and after measurement, order spoke cut to right size, watch u-tube as I assemble a wheel. did this about 4 times before I got it correct, now it is second hand, I have built 6 wheels since Jan/2012. these are all either disc or sturmey archer drums.

this is the spoke calculator that I use.

I actually use a 12 inch Motorbike rim off a Thumpster
It is slightly smaller than a 20inch bmx rim with the tyre on.
Much wider and much stronger
Magic pie Dual Suspension
Peak 6kw Air cooled
Kelly controller (mini kbs series, smaller than a coke can, can do 80+ battery amps peak, Favorite small controller. Really punchy)
20s 16ah
60 kmh,
Safe, Beautiful handling.
