Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgrade
Hi,
I have a ebikekit Direct drive rear wheel motor that I think is defective... I cannot get it to spin properly
as said in one of my builds I thought I burned it but many think not...
The motor is 5 minutes old... with less than 2000ft done on it... I just think I didnt place the inside spacers right... but not sure...
I upgraded the phase wires with copper wires 12g.
asking 150$ plus shipping

Exactly what does it do when you press the throttle? Have you contacted e-Bikekit directly for assistance? Did it work before the phase wire upgrade?

If it binds while spinning it on the bike, then it may be that you need a spacer between your gear cluster and the motor (as I did). Any reputable bike shop should have one for a couple bucks. Otherwise you may have the wrong phase/hall combo.

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
i doubt if you overloaded and burned up a 9C from E-Bikekit.com but if you can fill us in on what the problem acted like, maybe we can help you get it working.

heres some pictures

I rebuilt it and it does not spin freely

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
Shorted phase wires? Does it turn but go kind of chunk chunk chunk, resisting at each magnet? Maybe you nicked the wire insulation stuffing it?

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
too bad there is no info. you swapped out the stock phase wires for larger 12G? did you check continuity on the hall sensor wires after you pushed the new wires inside? if we knew more we could help you. have you measured resistance between each of the wires and the axle itself? is there 5V on the red wire on the halls and is there continuity of the ground from the hall sensor back to the controller? that motor was not hot from looking at the picture so it did not burn up.

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
It doesn't look like it got hot at all. Check the continuity/resistance of each hall wire from outside the axle, to the green board. Also check the continuity/resistance of the phases from outside the axle to where they attach to the windings. It should shed some light on things.

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
the motor is functioning but I feed a inner resistance inside the motor
but it does not spin freely by hand...

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
Hard to tell how much resistance you're talking about. But all DD hubs have some internal resistance. I tested the resistance of my 9c 2807 by running the least amount of power through it to keep it spinning: With the wheel of the ground, it took 5W.Karl wrote:the motor is functioning but I feed a inner resistance inside the motor

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
the 1st time I installed the motor I could give it a spin (by hand) and it would easily do 1/2 turns
now I give it a spin and its like if I was applying the brakes it stops a 1/4 of a turn later

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
Your saying that the motor spun normally before you did what you did with it. If you "upgraded" a new working motor and now it doesn't work, I wouldn't call it "defective". I would call it damaged.

Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
it is hard to evaluate. could be that the normal resistance of the direct drive motor from the stator attraction to the magnets is now increased by some friction inside, either bearings not seated properly on the axle or even the new wire rubbing against the inside of the hub.

These pieces of plastic/wood should be pushed in flush with the stator, they could be touching the cover.

Wow, could that be it? Very good observation!thewmatusmoloki wrote:These pieces of plastic/wood should be pushed in flush with the stator, they could be touching the cover.
Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
the plastic things pulled out after the run... they cannot be pushed down anymore... I dont know how
Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
Have you tried a hair dryer?
Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
cut them off with dikes then. man that is the problem. i noticed that too, but did not put two and two together. good catch moloki. they are hitting the ribs on the inside of the cover. that's what makes them sing.
Re: Ebikekit REAR motor + Double wall rim + phase wire upgra
ill try that
thx
