Two recent replies to this thread:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14193
confirmed a suspicion I have had for some weeks now: The forum is not sending email notifications of threads I'm subscribed to when new replies are posted, *sometimes*. I can't figure out the pattern for when it doesn't do it.

No, they're not in my spam folders, or elsewhere in the email. I never delete anything, and they're definitely not there, after both a keyword / title search of email, and after manual perusal of all emails within a date range for ones (like this thread) that I know when I should have gotten one but did not.

I even changed which email account I get notifications at, and it did not change the problem (as this thread's problem occurred both before and after that). Both are Gmail accounts, but I do not seem to be missing any emails from anyone else (other than the known-to-be-messed-up Freecycle mailing lists from Yahoo and the new still-in-progress Freecycle.org setup they're working on, which isn't due to Gmail AFAICT, as those problems happen regardless of what provider I have tried).

I know that it won't send a notification if I haven't visited the thread since it's last notification, but in the DIY CFL thread *I* was the last poster in before monster's 2-21 post, and I did not get a notification for that post nor for the post today, 2-24.

I wouldn't even know about it except I happened to View New Posts a moment ago and this thread was at the top of the list.

Is there some sort of board limit to number of subscribed threads, or is something messed up on them due to the crashes/etc earlier this year?

Note that at first, until this thread, I still thought maybe I had just not actually clicked the link in every email notification (since I middle-click them to open them in new tabs), and so somewhere along the way I missed replies to some of the threads, which then caused the board to not ever send me new notifications (until I visited the thread again).

Thinking that might be the case, there are a couple of times I've gone to the main page and "marked forums read" for the whole ES board, but even that obviously doesn't fix the problem, since this thread was replied to both before and after I did that the last time, and I didn't get a notification for either one.

So....assuming that there *is* a problem where the board is not sending notifications to me for some threads because it thinks I haven't visited them (because I didn't get a notification I should), how do I reset it to think that I *have* visited it, other than manually going thru my "subscribed threads" list in UCP and opening every one of them?

PM notifications are working for me no problems there..

They seem to be working here, albeit slow, prolly due to Gmail. The generation times were instant, the display in the gmail inbox was delayed.

I did not get notified of my posts, just Ypedal's.

Well, AFAIK it's only supposed to generate one notification of replies to a thread, until you go back and "visit" that thread again.

I'd've assumed that meant once the thread is marked "read", but that is not the case either, or I'd've gotten a notification of my DIY CFL thread twice, since I marked *all* the forums read twice, once well before the first reply, and once between that reply and the second one.

So it appears to require an actual *visit* to the thread instead, actually opening any page of that thread (AFAICT without further tests I'll be doing as I have time).

Notifications of new PMs don't ever appear to be a problem (for me), but definitely ones for subscribed threads can be.

I am not sure if it is only ones subscribed from before the crash, but I suspect that it is, simply because that would make the most sense, as I have never had a problem (that I am aware of) in any PHPBB forum for notifications before this, including here. As I find threads that do have replies but I did not get notifications of, I can test this theory to see when they were created (and last replied to) and post a list of dates here if it helps.

It's not really a big deal but for some reason I no longer get email notification of posts on a subject I put up. I've clicked the appropriate box in my "board preferences", and I used to, but for about the last week or so, nothing.

If you know how I can fix this I'ld appreciate it.
It's probably something with your email provider not delivering them to your inbox, but rather callng them spam and either never getting them to you at all, or else putting them in some sort of spam or junk folder on your webmail.

If you are using a local email client on your computer, rather than chekcing the webmail page, you'll never see or receive anything that's not in your actual Inbox with most email providers.

Your local email client could also be marking them as spam or junk, filtering them from view.

Or a server between you and the ES mail server might be thinking they're spam, and never forwarding them to your email provider at all.

Other than ensuring they arent' in your spam or junk folders either locally or on the webmail, and setting a rule to not do that if they are, there's not much you can do about it if they don't get to you.

FWIW, I probably only get an average of about half or less of the notifications from the many hundreds of threads I'm subscribed to (sometimes none at all for days), so I no longer bother with the notifications, and instead just use this shortcut to my subscribed threads page:
http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/ucp.php?i=main&mode=subscribed
where new posts will show up at the top of the list, with an orange "take me to last post" icon I can just click (middle-click for new tab, actually). It always works, and is easier to deal with than notification emails, and much faster to open all the new replies in tabs with than by opening various emails and clicking links in them. :)

Hey guys, ever since the migration we are using a dedicated mail server and so far, all the subscriptions come through within a few seconds (up to a minute).

If you agree, let me know and we can consider this issue resolved.

All the links in this post are to the www-version of the website which does not have a valid SSL certificate. However, all you'll need to do is clear your browser cache (Control-Shift-R) and the next time you click on the links, you should be properly rerouted to the non-www version of the website which is properly secured.

So far it seems as if you have to accept the security warning first (ie continue to endless-sphere), and then you will always be redirected.

They're definitely being sent--mine still show up here (though I have them filtered to the trash via Gmail's filter function).

You might check your spam or junk folders at the ISP webmail page level, or see if your ISP is filtering them out before they even reach you.
