What's a good e bike headlight?

T HEADLAMP.jpgHere's a $12 18650-battery-powered T-shaped headlamp that I've attached with rubber bands to electric scooters, one on each side, about 500+ lumens, zoomable, too:

One of my favorite "high beam" lights was one of these 100w leds in an aluminium body. Total cost £20 for 5000-12000 lumens depending on heat sink.

A guy on reddit just posted this dual-headlight for $38. Said he liked it. 12V-80V input.

I bought some of those from eBay last year and my versions didn't hold up. Seller was good about return and while one was DOA the other worked a short time and it was impressive light beam. Be aware though, they were much larger than the photos might imply.

After reading this rather lengthy thread on "The New Best Headlight" at,...

http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/the-new-best-headlight.25228/

....I ordered one of these;

Really impressed, while not as bright as my Luna Cycles Extra Bright Cyclops, it throws plenty of light for my 20 mph assist bike.

Two thumbs up :lol:

I don't know, but people comment on how bright it is like they used to about my Cycle Iluminator and now my Cyclops;

The Cyclops (on 12S LiPoly, 46V)is on the left.

Actually, it is as bright as the Cyclops Extra, just not as large a pattern.
Amazing for such a little feller.

It has 3 intensities switch.
This is the back;

It has a really cool blue ring running lite that flashes.
Hard to see in pic.s;

Powered by a little pack of 4) Li-Ion cells.

If you buy it you won't be dissapointed.

So is it really 3000 lumens?

I should buy it.
I wonder how HOT the whole assembly would get at that kind of luminosity.
You can see the heat sinks.
I haven't noticed that it gets hot, but I haven't used it much yet.
But the thread over @ Pedelecs UK is 4 or 5 months old and none have failed yet.

Low mounting a headlight causes shadows, that let you see road bumps before you hit them. Mounting a light on the helmet will cause no shadows to be seen, and therefore you can't see nasty road bumps before you hit them.

I use a Cygolite Metro 550 and really love it. I use it in the bright blink mode, to make others aware that I'm there.

Any light with a single cree xml led will only output 300-700 lumens. If you realllyy push them (3000ma) you get 1000 lumens for 5 mins until its too hot and has to ramp down.

So ignore all boasts of anything over that lol

I used the Blitzu. Laser beam bright. Comes with its own rechargeable battery pack and charger. Mounts on any tube on your bike and lasts about 15 hours on a full charge.

Update on my Uni Bond light from Princess Auto
Its awesome!

IMG_0093.JPGHere's a pic of my cree front light, extremely bright. I had it attached to a front suspension rack but it vibrated so I've removed that old rack. Haven't used it in awhile but I think it runs 3 amps.

I got a Unibond headlight from Princess Auto / Harbour Freight
I forgot how much I spent on it, probably got it on sale for $20.

I'd try these out no problemo

Might folks at least agree that "adjustable" might be "better"?

Light *usually* shines forward and down, but can also be shone up/down/left/right/backwards... w/high-low intensities, diff. patterns of flashing... w/a battery that recharges via computer USB ports :mrgreen:

I like that light, looks like the beam would be spread out wider while still having a strong center; mine hits the ground like a super bright square but not much outside of that. I mainly got it because I wanted something that I could wire directly into my pack.

The LED work light from the auto parts store works great. I use the round one with 6 LEDs for $30. Very bright.

Main thing to look for in lights is you want flood lights, not spot lights. Those little retro looking ones for $6 a piece on ebay are cheap spotlights which are not so bright, and their mounts break off within 2000mi.

I just tested it out now, in the dark, its got a nice wide spread, I think I got it on sale for $20cdn or sumtin from Princess Auto. For going fast, I need a light that will light about 25' and longer. I am seriously thinking about buying some Cree bulbs and building my own.

I was just deleting some old eBay stuff and found the original listing for this light:

*Source: U3 lamp beads

*Power: light intensity 20W / LM

*Voltage :12-80 (V)

*Current: 2.5 (A)

*Flux: 1600

*Color temperature: 6000K White

*Applicable models: cars, motorcycles, electric cars,etc.

*Features: high brightness, low power consumption, long life, energy-saving 65% than the original car halogen bulb, 80% than the xenon lamps, effectively extending the life of the battery pack.

I got this one because I wanted to be able to wire it directly into the pack and not have a separate battery.
