I saw that sheet and was thinking, that's a pretty nice option for my sportier RC multirotor/heli builds. Then I noticed it's a 20650 not 18650...

That cell is either super cheap to make $/Wh, or it better cycle >2,000x, because it's specs and even power density isn't very impressive compared to 1+year old existing LG 18650s.

Btw. anybody seen any evidence about new 20650,20700,21700,21-70 format cells in "High Density" design with parameters better than (still a waporware) Samsung INR21700-47P? It's been some time when appeared first report on these new formats.

Well there is supposedly the Sony/BMZ 21700 "3Tron" cell, that has some pretty impressive claims..
such as..
50% more energy
60% more capacity ?
68% increase in output ?
4 times more discharge current ?

Hmm.. interesting but no real data about BMZ batteries to compare. However, I managed to find out that the cells are most probably sourced from SONY. It could be a Sony US21700Vxx cell with 5Ah anounced capacity. But as usual there is no evidence that this cells are already in Mass Production. Anyway 5Ah in 21700 is a real progress because it is finally comparable in energy density with ~3,5Ah in 18650.

I also highly recomend to study this document if you haven't found it yet. :)

Indeed, but new Sony US18650VC7 have the same 2.0V cut-off voltage too. :roll:

Possibly, but from those discharge curves it doesnt seem to bring much to the party.
All these cells are "over the cliff" on voltage once down to 3.0v with very little extra capacity between 3 and 2.0 v.
But At least the Sony VC7 seems to sag less at higher discharges.
 
Here is a first datasheet/technical information list from Sony about VC7. It confirms 2,0V cut-off (but for nominal 0.2C discharge only, otherwise they use standard 2.5V). Also there is a correction for 10A discharge temperature rise of VC7 seen in the Shmuel presentation on page 10. The end temperature is reaching 70°C, which is pretty the same as for MJ and GA. (They probably accidentally used the data for 5A).

their cycle life tests use 2.5v

i think in their desire to advertise 3500mah they overdischarged the cell to 2.0v in that one test

not very honest :roll:
